AIG Al-Sheik Kamara Seeks Community Collaboration

Assistant Inspector General of Police East is reported to have called on residents of Kenema, Kailahun and Kono Districts to collaborate and cooperate with the police on security issues. He is reported as saying that the vital role of the community people in achieving a peaceful environment cannot be overemphasised. He therefore urged all and sundry to promptly reports matters that threaten the peace and coexistence of the eastern region in particular and the country as a whole.

Forest Department Accused

The Forest Department in the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security has been accused by a group of alleged land owners of leasing private land in the Port Loko District, without their knowledge. The said have recently registered their dissatisfaction over the development of leasing their land to corporate companies. According to reports, the department has leased the land in question to Comium Sierra Leone and a Russian Company called V Card Group Residents, a development that have resulted in the owners issuing a stern threat to do all possible to take possession of their lands.

Poor Healthcare Facilities Claim 4 Lives in Kambia

Coordinator of Civil Society Movement and Human Rights Activist is said to have disclosed that four patients have died as a result of poor medical facilities, compounded with lateness in seeking medical attention at the Kambia Government Hospital. According to Mr. Mohamed Jalloh, the deceased, Mr. Soriba Kamara of Bamoi Luma, Abdulai Kamara of Kambia 3, Hassan Dumbuya of Tonko Limba and Sheka Kargbo of Makosa, met their demises whilst undergoing caesarean operation at the hospital. They were reportedly taken to the hospital in critical conditions. Mr. Jalloh therefore called on all and sundry to promptly report issues of medical interest.

Broke Ose Hits Waterloo

Over thirty seven (37) houses are said to have been demolished at a place called Banga Farm Plantation in the Western Rural District of Waterloo. The exercise was reportedly carried out by the enforcement unit of the Ministry of Lands, Country Planning and the Environment in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Police (SLP). The incident reportedly witnessed a sorrowful scene as affected residents were spotted crying like babies for losing their abodes. The Ministry is said to have warned intended land owners to beware of fake land documents and for land owners to regularise their documents with the ministry.

Publicity Secretary Eyes PMDC Top Seat

National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) has reportedly made known his intention to run for the partys National Chairmanship. Mohamed Bangura is said to have expressed commitment of bringing new breed of politicians to the PMDC, if elected as national chairman. He used his declaration as a forum to emphatically state that the PMDC is no small party as have been widely speculated, but a party that have supporters from all over the country. According to reports, the partys delegates conference is scheduled for April this year.

Big Boost for 3 Villages in the Bombali District

Reports have it that a trained registered nurse and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Giddas in California, USA, has donated sixty (60) bags of rice and learning materials worth over US$ 10, 000 (Ten Thousand United States Dollars) to three villages in the Bombali District. Madam Isatu Timbo Nowkedia made the donation to the Rokunla, Royanka and Roronka villages, situated 29 miles off Makeni. Madam Nowkedia is reportedly a native of assured the locals of one of the beneficiary villages, Rokunla. She is reported to have assured the locals of more donations, whilst emphasizing that the girl child education should be a priority. She also promised to rehabilitate the hospital and health centres in the district.

Chiefs Battle Over Village Ownership

Reports have it that Paramount Chief Kanneh Kargbo III of Tonko Limba Chiefdom in the Kambia District and Chief Alhaji Kanneh Kalleh II of Thambaka Chiefdom in the Bombali District are at logger heads over the ownership of a village called Tambie. Tambie village is reportedly attractive to traders. According to reports, the unfolding brouhaha between the chiefs is reportedly threatening the peace of the area. Provincial Secretary North is said to have called on the chiefs to exercise calmness over the matter until it is amicably resolved.
