NATIONAL HIV/AIDS SECRETARIAT
Press Release

CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP FOR GLOBAL FUND SUB-REPIENTS, M&E OFFICERS & DISTRICT HIV/AIDS FOCAL PERSONS

The National HIV/AIDS Secretariat (NAS), the Principal Recipient of Global Fund HIV/AIDS ROUNDS 4 & 6 grants, conducted an M&E capacity building workshop in Bo from 4th though 6th February, and in Makeni from 11th through 13th of February 2009 for Sub-Recipients M&E officers, M&E Unit staff members & District Council HIV/AIDS Focal Persons.

These two capacity enhancement trainings are part of the NASs capacity development plan of the fore-mentioned beneficiaries of the Global Fund Round 4 & Round 6. The two workshops have reached 80 participants drawn from the national, regional and district levels.

Essentially, the training was designed to enhance the capacity of the participants on M&E data management and data reporting. More importantly, the workshop helped clarify the meaning of all indicators. The data collection tools of such indicators have been developed for community based interventions and suggestions were made to improve some of health facility based activities.

In the light of the crucial role of M&E in the entire response to HIV/AIDS, this training was justified as it will equip participants with the requisite tools and skills to perform the fundamental tasks in data collection, management and reporting. In addition, this training will add value to the development of any meaningful scientific work that must be informed by empirical evidence.

The workshop has been lead by the NASs international M&E consultant who co-facilitated the training with NASs Senior M&E Officer and the AIDS Response Group (ARG) Senior M&E officer.

In the past months, two other legs of training were conducted for the same beneficiaries. The National AIDS Secretariat is committed and dedicated to building the M&E capacity of the M&E Unit and that of the various stakeholders of the fight against HIV/AIDS through a series of workshops. The workshop has been lead by the NASs international M&E consultant who co-facilitated the training with NASs Senior M&E Officer and the AIDS Response Group (ARG) Senior M&E officer.

For further information, please contact Dr. Brima Karbgo, Director of National HIV/AIDS Secretariat (NAS)
