SLPP Boasts of International Finance Come 2012

Chairman of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), North America chapter, Augustine Fallay is said to have disclosed that the North America Branch of the party can singularly raise hundreds of thousand dollars to finance the party for the 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections. According to reports, the money in question will aid contenders of the party intensify campaigns in their respective areas. It is also reported that the North America branch has expanded tremendously.

SLPP Cautions SLPP

Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. Mathew Nyuma is said to have cautioned SLPP contender Gbondima Gbondo to desist from what he described as dragging the name of the party to the mud. He described the SLPP as a well organised political outfit with reputable image. He urged the contender not to allow himself to be used by selfish politicians to cause division in the party. Reports say Gbondima Gbondo had earlier alleged that he was assaulted by the MP.

Paramount Chief Escapes Assassination

Paramount Chief of Samol Chiefdom in the Kambia District, Hon Alhaji Bai Shebora Yek II is reported to have narrowly escaped an assassination attack, when some unknown armed men recently attacked his house. The chief is reportedly faced with threats because of his alleged loyalty to a certain political party, to the annoyance of the opposing side. According to reports, police in the area seem to be doing little to arrest the said situation. Properties worth millions of leones were cartered away, whilst other properties were damaged.

PMDC Womens Leader Blasts Margai

The Womens Leader of the Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC), Mrs. Rebecca Mbalu is reported to have accused the partys leader, Charles Francis of taking decisions without the consent of their executive. She is reported as saying that there is no political party in the world that decision are arrived at by one person

Civil Society is Disorganised

The Country Director for Action -Aid Sierra Leone, Mr. Tennyson Williams is reported to have accused the civil society in Sierra Leone of being disorganised and fragmented. He said the civil society is supposed to be au fait with topical issues, and institute genuine campaigns. He said civil society organisations in the country are not operating in concert, and therefore urged them to take their rightful position in society in order for socio-economic development to be achieved.

Information Minister Intervenes in Journalists Brouhaha

Information and Communication Minister, Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo is said to intervened in the long standing brouhaha between the erstwhile Acting President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) Mr. Philip Neville and executive members of the association. The minister is said to have recently summoned the parties in the impasse in a peace broking attempt on the court charges brought by Philip Neville and the SLAJ Executive. He is said to have advised the parties to be united for the furtherance of journalism in the country.

Deportation Order for Non Residents

The Minister of Labour, Social Security and Industrial Relations, Minkailu Mansaray has reportedly threaten the issuance of a quit order for all illegal residents or non citizens working in Sierra Leone without residence and work permits in order to give chance to well meaning people who have fulfilled all the required criteria to stay and work in the country. He is reported to have disclosed that a committee has been set up with the mandate to review some of the old legislations pertaining to the labour laws. The ministry is expected to make a statement on the issue of non residents immediately the committee is done with it assigned responsibility.
