Freetown, Monday March 16th 2009: Female Journalists in Sierra Leone have just concluded interviewing at least five female supporters of the SLPP as well as female staff working at the SLPP Party Headquarters who were gang-raped at around 10:30am this morning by hoodlums who broke into the Party Headquarters and raped the women in full view of everyone present. The doctors treating the women have confirmed to the female journalists that the women were brutally raped. Many of them are just ordinary female staff working at the SLPP Canteen. A total of TEN (10) women were raped including a pregnant woman who was also stabbed repeatedly as she was being raped. Throughout their ordeal, the police were right inside the building pretending not to hear the screams of pain being uttered by the women as they were being gang-raped. It is unbelievable!! This is NOT propaganda. This is the frightening reality!!! WIMSAL (Women in the Media in Sierra Leone) will soon be issuing out a formal statement on this disturbing matter.
