It was Not A Clash But An Invasion!!!

You have to carefully sieve through the information being massively churned out from the ruling partys propaganda machinery to realize how despicable the situation really is. The propaganda being ceaselessly issued non-stop has even FOOLED the otherwise sensible Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) and Human Rights Commission (HRC) into issuing out what I will only term as most unfortunate press releases that seek to condemn the victims of the violence alongside the violators.

With all due respect to the recent rape victims, yesterdays PPRC Release is to be likened to the situation of a woman whom after having been raped, then gets accused of having flaunted herself and so she deserved to be raped. The HRC Release which gives needless historical backgrounds and virtually evades the current disgraceful situation, is just as guilty as the PPRC Release. To put it frankly, the outrageous actions of APC supporters is being diluted by the HRC and PPRC by lumping the SLPP into the mix of violence!

However, with local tabloids shamefully carrying misleading and untrue sensational articles about arms and ammunitions and former rebel fighters being found around John Benjamin inside the SLPP Party HQs, one will be hard pressed not to forgive those who are tarring the SLPP victims with the APCs violent brush! The charismatic John Oponjo Benjamin is so feared by the APC propagandists that they are creating arms and ammunitions around the man when all what JOB is carrying around him is an aura of supreme confidence that is winning hearts and minds over to the SLPP.

The International Press (especially the BBC and Reuters) are just as guilty as the PPRC alongside a whole host of other local news media who have all fallen hook, line and sinker for the propaganda being churned out. They keep on publishing and broadcasting about "clashes" between two rival political factions in the capital city when what really happened was an illegal and CRIMINAL INVASION of the premises of the legitimate democratic opposition in Sierra Leone by supporters and members of the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC).

However, although one might forgive those issuing misinformed releases and news broadcasts, for Posterity and to set History right; let us all get one thing very clear: There were NO CLASHES in Freetown on Monday 16th March 2009. It was, in plain and simple terms, A CRIMINAL INVASION OF SLPP OFFICES.

A clash occurs between two parties. In this case, one party was quietly minding its business inside its offices when the other party invaded it causing unconscionable harm and destruction. Ignore all the rubbish about the Mayor and Council staff being stoned on his way to work. Like Standard Times arms and ammunitions, it is nonsense. It never happened. Infact, the Police have evidence of alleged City Council workers and ruling partisans systematically destroying the Mayors offices. The erudite Deputy Chair of the SLPP, Dr. Kadi Sesay can brief people more on this.

Bottom-line, it is clear that the invasion and criminal acts that took place on the SLPPs premises last Monday have the blame lying squarely on certain members of the Police and thugs claiming to be in support of Ernest Bai Koroma. The fact that thugs did the INVASION on the morning after they escorted the President into town, speaks volumes about the extent of complicity and state endorsement of their INVASION of the Opposition Headquarters.

This is why last nights lame so-called Address to the Nation that President Ernest Koroma broadcasted has also not helped the situation. It is unbelievable that our sitting President is aware that women were brutally gang-raped inside the SLPP Offices and all he can chant about is that every inch of Sierra Leone is safe whilst he refrained from apologizing to the victims for the lapse in security under his watch that led to them being so grossly violated and invaded.

After I finished listening to the so-called Address to the Nation, I shook my head and asked whether this is what State House took several days to draft What a shame!

To end, I really wish I could have expanded more on the Presidents dismal, uninspiring, lackluster and evasive speech in this article but I was rushing to leave my offices yesterday as security might not be assured; brutes and rapists are now on the prowl and our President does not seem to be fully briefed on contemporary issues. Otherwise, why did he gloss over the INVASION?
