Traditional Healers Vow to Rescue Up-Gun Turntable in Sierra Leone

Traditional healers are said to be bracing up for a stiff confrontation with colleague traditional healers, who are reported to be using the historic Up-Gun Turntable as a haven to perpetuate all manners of evil against innocent people.

Situated in the east end of Freetown, the Up-Gun Turntable which serves as a welcome symbol for foreign visitors was re-designed by the erstwhile city council management as a place of relaxation.

Only recently, the facility was taken over by traditional healers who have been using it as a market center for their traditional herbs and at the same time using there to wreck havoc.

The situation has become so intense that the Sierra Leone Traditional Healers Union (SLTHU), the parent body of all traditional healers in the country, has thought it fit to intervene and put an immediate halt to the use of the public facility for the sale and administration of traditional medicines.

In an interview with the National President of the Sierra Leone Traditional Healers Union, Alhaji Dr. Suliaman Kabbah, he pointed out that the union is the umbrella body for all traditional healers in the country and has as its main objective to bring all traditional healers together to help cure various illnesses that could not otherwise be tackled by medical doctors.

He said they are putting in place strategies to meet with the new Minister of Health and Sanitation to present the union to him.

"I conducted a research at the Up-Gun Turntable and was able to prove that local medicine men are using there as a center for executing bad traditional acts against other people, which I consider as a very bad development for this country", Dr. Kabbah informed, adding that he has deployed his men all over the country to monitor the performances of traditional healers and to bring to book those found wanting.

He urged traditional healers who are in the habit of sitting along that facility to desist forthwith or face humiliation. He also ceased the opportunity to call on all traditional healers to register with the union, stressing that it is illegal for any one to administer traditional treatment without duly registering with the union.
