John Oponjo Benjamin shakes hands with Ambassador Michael Schulenburg last Friday in front of the Vandalised SLPP Party Offices shortly after Benjamin finished taking the UN rep on an extensive conducted tour of the damaged Opposition Headquarters
The Executive Representative of the United Nations Secretary General and Head of UNIPSIL in Sierra Leone, has in like fashion of his colleague, the American Ambassador, June Carter Perry, last Friday March 20th 2009, made an assessment visit to the recently vandalised Headquarters of the main opposition party in Sierra Leone, the SLPP. Ambassador Michael Schulenburg, (unlike Ambassador Carter Perry whose visit was truncated due to lack of access to the building) was however fortunate to be able to view the complete extent of the damage to the party's offices. Like Ambassador June Carter Perry, who is herself a well known women's rights activist, Ambassador Schulenburg was led on a conducted tour of the damaged SLPP premises by the new SLPP Chairman, Mr. John Oponjo Benjamin. We will bring you the photographs and full details of that visit in our next edition.
