Awareness Times Newspaper has received a Press Release from Makeni, the Headquarters of the Northern Province. It will seem to indicate that there is a regional split in Sierra Leones Civil Society although the exact specifics of this dissension are only vaguely hinted upon by the Northerners who are dissociating from their colleagues elsewhere. Release is here reproduced unedited under this page. So as to preserve its full authenticity and for proper analysis of the contents, all spelling & grammatical mistakes by the crafters of the Release have been left intact and untouched.

COALITION OF CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATIONS
NORTHERN PROVINCE
c/o 6 mabanta road, Makeni

PRESS RELEASE

20th March,2009.

MAKENI; The coalition of civil society organisations northern region wishes to outrightly condemn in the strongest of terms the political clashes on Monday 16th march,2009 in the capital Freetown which saw the wanton destruction of properties from both parties.

CCSONP considers the recent clashes as one that has the pontential of reminding sierra leoneans of the ugly past and thereby presenting the countrys image in bad light to the international community and also scare pontential investors and donors.

CCSONP has also noted with dismay certain individuals believed to be partisan but operating under the guise of civil society activism who are bent on using some organisations to deceive the international community with unrealistic positions and statements.CCSONP wishes to categorically state that most of these said civil society organisations lacks national character and therefore cannot speak for or on behalf of organisations in the provinces.

CCSONP is calling on government to investigate the causes of the clashes and hence bring the actors responsible to justice, and also institute mechanism to avert its future occurrence. CCSONP fully supports the governments bid to permanently close down both the APCS RISING SUN RADIO and SLPPs UNITY RADIO respectivelythrough the appropriate institution. The two radio stations in our view have been used as hatered campaign instruments for selfish political gains.

CCSONP is calling on all sierra leoneans to put the country first and support government development agenda.
