The long awaited Zain Africa Challenge (ZAC) Inter University Quiz Competition commenced on Saturday 28th March 2009 in Kampala, Uganda, with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Ghana and the Jomo Kenyatta University of Kenya beginning the show.

Three students, Dennis Barasa, James Kyalu and Mike Mogusu of the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture, Science and Technology locked horns with Williams Menson, George Arthur and Percy Ampeh of Kwame Nkrumah University of Ghana.

Both universities exhibited laudable performances, ending with 880 points for the Jomo Kenyatta, while the Kwame Nkrumah University secured themselves 680 points.

The two universities that are expected to partake in the next competition are the University of Malawi and Ibandan University.

The Zain Africa Challenge (ZAC) is broadcast live on the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Service (SLBS) television every Wednesday and Saturday at 8:00pm.

Zain has staked several prices for viewers who are accorded the opportunity of answering questions by sending the answers to SMS 600.

Thirty two (32) universities from eight (8) English speaking countries, including, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi and Zambia, are participating in the competition.

The universities are battling for the prestigious Zain Scholars Trophy plus $50,000 (Fifty Thousand United States Dollars) as an institutional grant.

The competition has also staked $5,000 (Five Thousand United States Dollars) for each participant in the winning team.

Zain is doing this in order to promote education in Africa and to offer participants the opportunity of building networks and friendships that will last in a life time.
