ACC Donates to School Clubs in Makeni

The Northern Regional Office of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) in Makeni is reported to have donated note books, pens, bags and caps to members of the Integrity Club at the Birch Memorial Secondary School in Makeni. The donation, according to reports, was part of the ACCs effort to curb corruption in the country. The ACC are reportedly going to do similarly donations to schools in other parts of the country.

Residents Wants Commanding Officer Out

Reports monitored from local tabloids have intimated that a cross section of residents of the Calabatown Community, in the eastend of Freetown have reportedly called on the Executive Management Board at the Police Headquarters to replace the officer commanding the Calaba Town Police Station, Inspector Franklyn Yayah Conteh. The community people are alleging that that the activities of the officer in question are not in the interest of community people. Chairmen for APC Ward 348, Mr. Alfred Alimamy Kargbo and others have reportedly buttressed the allegation, alleging that he unlawfully extort money from people. Mr. Conteh has since denied the allegations.

Armed Robbers Attack Vision Managing Editor

Reports have disclosed that the Editor of the New Vision Newspaper, Mr. ABS Massaquoi and family were placed under gunpoint at 4 Taylor Street, Main Road Calaba Town on Saturday at about 2:45am. Reports say one of Mr. Massaquois neighbours, Mr. Thulla was chased by the armed robbers and was grabbed at the door while his daughter was about to open. As Mr. Massaquoi opened his door to aid his attacked neighbour, the robbers rushed at him and placed his entire family at gun point. The attackers were reportedly claded in OSD outfits and were well armed.

NaCWAC Talks on Child Protection

The Acting Executive Secretary of the National Commission for War Affected Children (NaCWAC), Mr. Alhaji M.S Konneh has reportedly assured parents that the law governing childrens rights also makes provision for parent to protect their children from abuse and forced labour. He said parents have the right to control and guide their children and to grant them access to other privileges. He is reported as saying that parents should serve as their childrens legal representative, regarding benefits and other interest. According to him, section 36 of the Childrens Rights Act of 2007 makes provision for parents rights.

Ants Kill Baby at Kissy

Local tabloids have revealed that ants has stormed and bitten a one month old baby to death at 72B King George Avenue, Kissy Dockyard in Freetown. The mother of the baby is said to have recounted that she initially spotted some black ants at the bed side of the baby before going to sleep. According to her, the ants were cleared. She continued that when she woke up at around 4am in the morning, she discovered that the ants were coming from the mouth of her baby, with blood dripping from the babys nose also. Reports say this is the second time such mysterious thing has happened to the family in question. The matter is presently been investigated by the police.

Society Men Accused

Reports alleged that the activities of Poro Secret Society members in Makeni, Bombali District, Northern Sierra Leone are gradually becoming a cause for concern. There activities have allegedly threatened the lives of several residents who are not members. They are reportedly leaving their society bushes and display their crafts in the center of town, during the day time and at night. According to reports, they normally storm the NP Park in Makeni and terrorize the people with all forms of black magic on a daily basis.
