Free Surgery at Choithram Hospital

Choithram Hospital situated on Hill Station in Freetown is reported to have offered free surgical operations on six patients. According to reports, the patients in question were reportedly suffering from various forms of paralysis, which cannot be cured by the countrys medical facilities and trained medical practitioners. Chief Medical Officer of the Hospital, Dr. Baimba Baryoh is reported as saying that the patients were finally cured, when two giant doctors, U. Reiniger and Z. Fekete from Foundation Othopaedic, visited the country and carry out the operations.

Big Boost for Makeni Farmers

Councilor Prince Kargbo of the Makeni City Council (MCC) is reported to have donated farm tools to four (4) communities in Ward 89 in the Bambali District. The donation is aimed at improving food production in that part of the country. The Councilor reportedly advised the beneficiaries to properly utilize the tools, in order to yield a bounteous harvest to fight against hunger. He is said to have also promised to do same to other farmers.

Children Used As Miners

Several non governmental organizations are purporting to be advocating in order to restrain the use of children as miners. Most of the children who are involved in miner are said to have alleged that they are yet to see any non governmental organization to address their plights. An example of such child miners is 13 years old Ibrahim Conteh, in the Moyamba District, who has reportedly being a child miner since the age of 10. He reportedly alleged that he has been deprived of most of his rights as a child, adding that he is looking forward to the day he will be rescued.

Local Tax Collection Soon

The Public Relations Officer of the Freetown City Council (FCC) has reportedly disclosed that his institution will soon embark on local tax collection. Cyril Mattia said is imperative on each and every Sierra Leonean to pay their local tax, because the money will be used for developmental purposes. According to reports, the payment still remains at Le 5,000. The Councils are therefore calling on all Sierra Leoneans to comply.

Oil Theft Continues In Kissy

Local tabloids have revealed that thieves have returned to the Kissy Terminal Oil Refinery. It could be recalled that over 28 people recently lost their lives when fire erupted at the terminal in question. According to reports, majority of youths in that vicinity are still being spotted scooping fuel from the area. Police are said to have however, arrest three people in the area past Thursday. Police are said to have issued several warnings for the youths to desist from going to the dangerous spot to scoop fuel.

SLCB Opens Waterloo Branch

Sierra Leone Commercial Bank (SLCB) has reportedly opened it 10th branch at Waterloo, in the Western Rural District of Sierra Leone. The Managing Director of the Bank is reported as saying it was part of the policy of the bank to have a branch at Waterloo, noting that they are partners in development. He said SLCB is the only Government Retail Banking Institution in the country. According to reports, the bank is controlling 28 percent of all customers deposits in the country. The bank is reported to have been in operation for 36 years with branches in major towns.
