A survey conducted over the past two weeks by the Awareness Times has clearly indicated that President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and his All Peoples Congress (APC) led government still maintain high popularity in Freetown and other parts of the country, especially in the northern stronghold of the party.

President Koroma recently storms the central business district of Freetown with no security personnel, and was welcomed by thousands of Freetonians

Several people this medium spoke to in places like Kroo Bay, Goderich, Lumley, Wilberforce, Wellington, Kissy, Calaba Town and the city center, registered their confidence in the President, stating that he will surely change to prosperity the sufferings of the populace.

They further stated that President Ernest Bai Koroma has clearly manifested his resolve and commitment to restore the countrys lost pride and dignity.

"Ernest Koromas regime has brought in so many developments in the country and restored the confidence of the international community to continue aiding Sierra Leone", an APC youth leader told this press at Kingtom.

They expressed satisfaction over the reconciliatory strides recently taken by the President in a bid to unite his APC party and the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP).

They described the visit of the President to the headquarters of the opposition SLPP as laudable, stating that he has truly demonstrated that he is the leader of the country and not just the APC.

"Inviting the leaders of the SLPP and PMDC to grace the APC National Delegates Conference in Makeni, has earned President Koroma another feather to his political cap", an Abacha Street Trader disclosed, adding that the President is indeed committed towards bridging the political gap in the country.

The people however raised grave concerns over the presence of Idrissa Kamara aka Leather Boot at the Makeni APC Convention. They hold the view that the President should distant himself from Leather Boot until such time when the allegations against him are proved otherwise. "Leather Boots presence at the Wusum Stadium goes contrary to the Presidents expression of commitment to bringing to book the perpetrators of the attacks on the SLPP headquarters; giving that accusing fingers have been pointed at Leather Boot as being the architect of the said attacks", a youth in Makeni commented.

Meanwhile, the Presidents popularity is feasible each time he decides taking a walk around town. He is always welcomed with thunderous applauds and jubilations. Street Traders even spread their wrappers for him to walk on, a scene depicting the triumphant entry.

The successful conclusion of the much talked about cocaine trial that saw the convicting of 15 persons followed by the public burning and destruction of the cocaine substance, has also earned the President more admiration both locally and internationally.

In the midst of all these however, the people remain unimpressed in certain areas, and are particularly urging that investigations into the attacks on the SLPP headquarters are speeded up and the culprits brought to book without further delay.

According to them, political tolerance should be the watch word for all well meaning Sierra Leoneans wanting to see their country develop.
