Armed Robbers Terrorize Kissy Community

Local tabloids have revealed that unidentified armed youths are presently disturbing the peace of citizens living in the Kissy community, east end of Freetown. Reports also have it that a police officer was recently attacked by robbers, but the intervention of his colleagues and other vigilant youths in the area, aided his rescue and subsequent arrest of one of the robbers. Hooligans are reported to be roaming along the vicinity of Hotel 5/10, which is becoming a major cause for concern to residents.

Water Crisis Hits Mabela

Victims of past Mondays flooding that hit the Mabela Community, east end of Freetown, continues to suffer from lack of safe drinking water, local tabloids say. Taps and wells are said to have been contaminated with piles of rubbish, as a result of the heavy rainfall that devastated the community. According to reports, residents are using contaminated water that runs through the sewage pipes. This situation, according to reports, poses serious health hazards for residents.

US Envoy Lauds Ernest

Ambassador June Carter Perry has reportedly lauded the courageous leadership of President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and the judiciary over the conclusion of the high profile cocaine trial. The Ambassador congratulated the Government of Sierra Leone for protecting its citizens from the scourge of narcotic, especially for the young people. The Sierra Leone Government has received wide appreciation over its commitment exhibited towards the war on drugs.

3 Death-Row Women Calls for Presidential Pardon

Three women, who have been sentenced to dead, and are currently serving their gaol term at the Pademba Road Prisons, are said to have called on President Koroma, for them to be granted Presidential pardon. Reports alleged that the women in question have been tortured for years now, thus their call. An international female prisoners advocacy group, ADVOCAID, is said to have joined the women in appealing that they be granted pardon.

Big Boost for Business

The Ministry of Trade had reportedly deducted the cost of registration fee on business from US$1,700 to US$79 USD. This disclosed was reportedly made by the Minister of Trade at a recent workshop held at Santanno House in Freetown. He expressed his commitment to continue to remove the barriers to trade development, in order to boost the countrys economy. He also informed his audience that the long time that people consume to register businesses has now been scheduled to only two days.

SLRTC Introduces New Road Safety Measures

Local tabloids have circulated that the Sierra Leone Road Transport Corporation (SLRTC) has initiated vibrant measures aimed at ensuring road safety mechanisms for commuters in the country. The new measures are aimed at checking the operations of vehicles plying the roads at various points in the country, to ensure the safety of passengers at all time. According to reports SLRTC will soon embark on a training program for road safety officers to check the corporations vehicles for the safety of commuters.

40 Diplomats visit Makeni

40 High Commissioners and Ambassador, representing different countries, have reported visited Makeni to celebrate the Makeni Day. Reports say the invitation of the diplomats to the celebration is to help development in that part of the country. The diplomats were reportedly given a befitting welcome by traditional leaders and other stakeholders. The delegates, according to reports, made a visiting tour in the Makeni city.

NASSIT Sensitizes MPS on Health Scheme

The National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) have reportedly held a days sensitization workshop for Members of Parliament (MPs) on the National Social Health Insurance (NASHI) at the Committee Room No 1, House of Parliament, Freetown. According to reports, the national health scheme focuses on the primary and secondary health care of the people. NASSIT is reportedly aimed at improving the health facilities of Sierra Leonean by implementing certain facilities.
