Citizens are Fed-Up of Fake Coup, Fake Letters, Fake Subversion...

Travel in poda-podas and taxis all over the capital city and even in the buses plying the provinces, the talk are the same all over. Sierra Leoneans are now fed-up with their current Governments penchant for creating a semblance of instability in the land through the spread of wild and unsubstantiated rumours about subversion and plots.

The latest to get the bile of many Sierra Leoneans up is the obviously faked letter that ruling party operatives are trying to pass off as a plan by the opposition to destabilise the country. The letter and its contents as well as the attempt to smear the opposition are all shamefully transparent to a populace that is already fed-up with the unceasing litany of faked up coups, letters and stories of subversion.

Just a month ago, the Minister of Information & Government Spokesman created ripples locally and internationally when he falsely alleged that an opposition elected local councillor from Kailahun District was engaged in mobilising young men to attack the capital city.

The talk of young men mobilising to attack the capital city is exactly what Sierra Leone does not need to send out to the investing international world especially during this financial depression that has hit the pockets of investors. Many investors get scared when they hear about rumours and talk of subversion and when they hear the Government Spokesman thoughtlessly start to speak about young men coming in all the way from the dead East to attack the capital city in the dead west, they get frightened to put their money into such a country. Therefore, it will take some time for investors to build up the confidence of bringing their money in here after the APC Governments gaffe about subversive elements mobilising to attack the capital city. Now, just as the effects of that thoughtless ploy was settling down, in comes the same regime players again with a new apparently faked up allegation about cutlasses and marijuana.

Exactly what an investor does not want to hear about!

Meanwhile, the opposition SLPP firmly believes that the ruling party, having failed to live up to campaign promises, is now using talk of instability to deflect the minds of the populace from an abysmal failure to carry out some Manifesto promises of President Ernest Bai Koroma.

A retired school teacher, Mr. Sheka Bum Koroma recently opined that Government is to blame for marketing the image of Sierra Leone as an unstable place not suitable for business even as the likes of Tony Blair are trying to help the people of this country.

"If this Government keeps crying Wolf! Wolf! They are coming! They are coming! do they think any investor will come here?" Bum Koroma asked in a public vehicle recently. In response, he got loud cries of derision from the seated passengers against the APC Governments continuous faked up allegations that always turn out to be cooked up phony stories.

Awareness Times is also hotly investigating a trumped up Coup Plot allegation against respected citizens in which the State allegedly used a Ghanaian informant to attempt to frame certain citizens. However, the coup-plot story which had the backing of some senior Government functionaries completely back-fired due to some oversight in the choice of a date of an alleged meeting.

We will bring you the full details as soon as we finish interviewing all the persons concerned in this shameful fake coup plot matter. We have already interviewed several highly placed police officers on this matter including the Assistant Inspector General of Police Francis Munu. Our investigations which include an in-depth look at why the Ghanaian informant was not charged, will be publicised very soon.
