Sierra Leone Oil Industry to Compete with others Soon

Sierra Leones only 100% indigenous oil company, Leone Oil Company, is poised to soon compete with other oil companies after opening its first filling station at Old Road in Freetown. Reports say the company has taken exactly 15 years and was established by Sierra Leoneans with the desire and determination to help the country develop. The company has reportedly assured that the difficulties in the oil market will soon be resolved.

Workers Storm Regimanuel Gray for Payment

Local tabloids have revealed that over 400 workers of Regimanuel Gray SL Limited have staged a protest over the premature termination of their contracts and delay in the payment of their benefits. According to reports, the atmosphere in the companys compound was chaotic and furious as the retrenched workers made it clear to the management of the company that they are in dire need of their entitlement. The Country Manager, Kingsford Amoah and other staff were locked up in their offices. The situation was put under control courtesy of the intervention of police officers from the Congo Cross Division.

Chartered Accountants Celebrate 21st Anniversary

Over 300 students and former accounting students have celebrated the 21st Anniversary of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sierra Leone (ICASL).The institute, according to reports, was established by an Act of Parliament in 1988 to train, develop and maintain professional accounting standards in Sierra Leone. The institute is said to have enrolled over 3,000 students under its Joint Examination Scheme with the Association of Chartered Accountants (ACCA) of the United Kingdom.

MEPWR Radiation Protection Officers on Two Week Training

The Minister of Energy, Power and Water Resources (MEPWR) Professor Ogunlade Davidson, has officially launched a two-week training workshop for newly recruited Radiation and Protection Officers at the Bumbuna Hydro Electric Project conference room, Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown. The minister was reported to have admonished the trainees to take the workshop seriously, stressing that radiation protection training is crucial to the development of the country.

Milton Margai Students Complain of Poor Road Network

Students of the Milton Margai College of Education and Technology (MMCET) have expressed grave concern over the poor road network leading to their campus. Accordingly, most drivers plying the route have started thinking otherwise as the road network seem to be getting worse every other day. The situation is expected to become even worse with the coming of the raining season. The students are also said to have raised concern over the limited accommodation to cater for all the students enrolled at the college.

Economic Crisis Looms Over Kailahun

Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) Councilor for Ward 15 in the Kailahun District has reported disclosed that the district will soon face a serious crisis if urgent steps are not taken to rehabilitate the road network in the general area, before the rains start full swing. Councilor Mohamed Kanneh alleged that the road network in the entire district is in a deplorable state, with the fear that traveling to Kailahun will soon be an impossibility as the main road leading therein is on the verge of collapsing. Reports say poor roads network has always been the most difficult challenge to the district. According to reports, the poor roads network is responsible for the high cost of living in the district.

Minister Urges Students to be Law Abiding

The Deputy Minister (11) of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Dr. Lansana Nyallay has admonished students to be law abiding and denounce violence during sports competition. The minister said the essence of sports is to give an opportunity to students to showcase their talents and also to provide an avenue wherein students of various institutions interact. He appealed to all those institutions involved in sporting activities to be united at all times.

Tony Blair to assist health ministry

The former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, is reported to have included Sierra leones health sector in his development project. According to reports, two officials from the office of Mr. Tony Blair, Africa Governance Initiative Sierra Leone Project, Messers David Easton and Faye Melly, have expressed their organizations desire to assist the health ministry. The officials reportedly placed the ministrys current priorities, vision and challenges on their agenda list with a view to exploring possible assistance.

FCC Mayor Faces Criticism

The Mayor of the Freetown City Council, Herbert George Williams has reportedly come under sharp criticism from the general public over his refusal to give a proper account of revenues generated by the council last year. The council, according to reports, has collected huge sums of money including local tax, market dues and other taxes, but the people seem to be in the dark as to how much money was actually raised.

APC MP Accuses Medical Doctor

Local tabloids say Hon Mohamed Tarawalie of Constringency 59 in Magburaka, has accused the Medical Superintendent of the Magburaka Government Hospital, Dr. Moses Micheal Kargbo of misusing hospital properties including drugs and vehicles. Reports say Dr. Moses Kargbo has since debunked the MPs accusation.
