Alimamy Kamara together with two others, Babatunde Henry Chukuma and Fredrick Abisodu Johnson, were Wednesday 20th May 2009 granted bail to the tune of Le. 20,000,000 (Twenty Million Leones) each, after making their first appearance at the Magistrate Court No.1 presided over by Magistrate Steven Conteh on 5 count charges ranging from conspiracy to commit a felony, wounding with intent, wounding contrary to section 20, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and the use of threatening remarks against the Editor of the New People Newspaper, Umuru Sitta Turay.

According to the statement of offense, the three accused persons on Thursday 14th May 2009 along Bathurst Street in Freetown, verbally and physically attacked Mr. Sitta Turay, accusing him of being used by the Publisher of Awareness Times Newspaper, Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden, to defame His Excellency President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.

Defense Lawyer for the three accused persons, G.K. Tholly, appealed for bail to be granted to his clients on grounds that they are residents of Freetown and will not attempt to escape from justice.

In response, the presiding Magistrate, Steven Conteh, granted the accused persons bail to the tune of Le.20,000,000 (Twenty Million Leones) each plus two sureties in like sum to be confirmed by the Master and Registrar of the Chambers of the Chief Justice of the Republic of Sierra Leone. The matter was adjourned to 4th of June 2009.
