Roofing Sheets Kill Boy 6

Local tabloids have intimated six year old Sheku Conteh, met his death following an encounter with iron roofing sheets meant for the roofing of the Congo Water Market at Wellington in the east end of Freetown. According to reports, the boy was playing around the area where the roofing sheets were stored, when the incident occurred. The roofing sheets reportedly feel over him and crushed him to death. The boy has since been buried.

Police Accused of Goat Theft

It has been reported that police officers recently stole a number of goats while carrying out an operation to clamp down on cultivators of marijuana in Yoni Bana Chiefdom, Tonkolili District. According to reports, Hon. Magnus Jolly Boy Lavalie, representing the chiefdom, confirmed that the police fired warning shots to panic the community, forcing many to flee their homes. In the process, the police reportedly killed and carted away a number of goats belonging to people in the community. The police have however denied the accusation, stating that Hon. Lavalie has been encouraging the youths of Yoni to cultivate marijuana.

Minister Urges Health Workers

The Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation, Hon. Mohamed Daudis Koroma, has expressed dissatisfaction over the dilapidated condition of the Births and Deaths office situated along Wilberforce Street in central Freetown. According to the deputy minister, the department should redouble its efforts to work in the interest of the people. He therefore urged the workers to improve on their performance and assured them of governments support to their work.

Security Charged for Larceny

A security guard attached at the National Security Service, Alhaji Kebbie Fofanah, has reportedly been denied bail by Magistrate Bankole Shyllon of Court No. 3, after being charged to court for an alleged larceny. Accordingly, the accused is alleged to have stolen a mobile phone belonging to one Mohamed Juana of 13 Old Railway Line in Freetown. Fofanah was not allowed to take a plea to the charge, and matter was adjoined to a further hearing date.

Parliament Arraigns Journalist

A journalist, James Kajue, working for the Africa Champion Newspaper, has reportedly been arraigned before the well of Parliament for clarification of an article he wrote. According to report, the African Champion wrote an article stating that the new Minister of Lands Country Planning and the Environment, Dr. Denis Sandy, accused Members of Parliament of being involved in the illegal sale of state lands. Journalists at the press gallery of Parliament questioned why the minister himself was not in court to shed light on a statement he made in a press interview.

WIMSAL Executive visits Eastern Region

Reports have disclosed that the national executive of Women in the Media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL), has paid a days working visit to their counterparts in the Eastern Region. Among reasons stated for their visit, was to interact with their members and acquaint them with development at the national level. According to reports, the executive also made substantial donations to their members in the Region.

U-15 Female Cricket Team Starts Training

Over 20 under-15 female cricket players have reportedly started training at the National Stadium for their first international encounter with Gambia. The team is expected to participate in the North West Africa Cricket Council (NWACC) competition to be held in Banjul, The Gambia, in November this year. According to reports, the tournament is going to involved female teams from six African countries such as The Gambia, Ghana, Cameroon, Mali, Morocco and Sierra Leone.

Egyptian Dupes Lebanese National

Reports have revealed that an Egyptian, Wael Hassan, has stolen over twenty thousand United States dollars from a Lebanese national, Muzay Hamdan. According to reports, Wael was the former Manager at Quick Take Snack Restaurant on Wilberforce Street in Freetown, which is own by Muzay Hamdan. Wael is reported to have siphoned monies raised from the sale of food and drinks.
