Big Doubt over Bumbuna

Local tabloids say there are leakages on the main Bumbuna Hydro Electric Dam. According to reports, engineers have suspected leakages known in engineering as sippages, with efforts being made to repair it as soon as possible. The repairing might take quite a while.

Armed Robbers Ransack Government Hospital

Reports have intimated that armed robbers have attacked and looted the main Government Hospital at Moyamba. The thieves are said to have carted away millions of leones worth of medical equipment and drugs meant for the wellbeing of the people living in that part of the country. The robbers were reportedly armed with guns and machetes during the attack which took place at about midnight. Inmates at the hospital were reportedly placed under gun point. The people of Moyamba are currently under security threat and are appealing to the government to intervene.

13-Year Old Girl Forceful Initiated

A 13-year old girl is reported to have been forcefully initiated into the bondo secret society a group of sowes at Masiaka. The girl is said to have committed a crime by removing the head tie of one of the Wotos (a very strong member of the society) and according them, the girls action was viewed by the sowes as a grievous crime. A fine was levied on the girl that was immediately paid, but the sowes later invaded the girls home and took her away with them into the society bush for initiation. The matter has been reported to the Masiaka Police Station for investigation.

Porous Border Points Hampers Immigration

Local tabloids say the government is worried over increasing porous border activities nationwide. According to reports, more alleged border activities may have been responsible for the influx of counterfeit and substandard goods into the country. This activity will hinder the states economy.

21 Nabbed in Police Raid

Twenty one people have reportedly been arrested by the police after a successful raid conducted by police at the Race Course Cemetery and the Dan Street Park in the east of end of Freetown. According to the Local Unit Commander of B Division headquarters Ross Road Police Station, Superintendent Kapri S. Kamara, the arrests were made in order to checkmate the activities of armed robbers and to put them at bay. The suspects have since been charged to court.

Njala Student Stabbed

Reports say one Gibrilla Koroma, a final year Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and Literature at the Njala University College Bo Campus was stabbed by one Julius a third year student of the same institution to coma an alleged election campaign riot. Facillie Mansaray, the students outgoing Minister of Information and Julius have been arrested by police to help in the investigation of the matter. The Njala University student election was scheduled to take place on May 27th 2009 in Bo, but have been postponed indefinitely due to the riot that broke out.

Parliament to Investigate Rape Saga in Kono

A sixteen man delegation of Members of Parliament in collaboration with the Committee on Human Rights, Paramount Chiefs and members from the 50/50 Group are on a four day fact finding mission in the Kono District. The fact finding mission is geared towards conducting a first hand independent investigation into the recent alleged incidence of rape.
