The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) has ended its two-day Annual Inter-Unit Athletic Competition. The event took place on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd May 2009 at the Hockey Pitch, Wilberforce 1st Battalion Army Barracks in Freetown.

Africell, Comium and Tigo mobile telecommunication companies, sponsored the thrilling event.

The participating teams included the Ministry of Defense, Armed Forces Agricultural Unit, Joint Military Unit, Armed force Educational Centre, Cameroon Armed Forces Training Centre in Benguema, Armed Forces Personnel Centre and Barracks Services, Maintenance Unit and Armed Forces Brass Band.

Welcoming the participants, the Assistant Chief of Defense Staff in charge of Personnel and Training, Brigadier Kestoria Kabia, said the Inter-Unit Athletic Competition was organized with the aim of testing the fitness and exercising the competitive spirit of the units under the direct control of the Ministry of Defense (MOD).

She wished the MOD success in this yearís athletic competition, whilst rendering special appreciation to the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defense Staff and the Director General of Defence, for what she described as their relentless efforts in seeking the welfare of the rank and file of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF).

She used the forum as an opportunity to call on members of the general public to grace the annual athletic competition that would be staged on the 28th, 29th and 30th of May this year at the Main Bowl of the National Stadium in Freetown.

At the end of the two-day sports meet, the MOD emerged as the Ďvictorsí with 357 points, followed by Burma Armed Forces Training Centre with 295 points. The Armed Forces Educational Centre attains third position, whilst the fourth position went to the Armed Forces Personnel Centre and Barracks Services. Maintenance Unit came fifth and Armed Forces Brass Band scored 170 points to earn them the sixth position.
