Fake Police Officer Dragged to Court

Reports say one Osman Sankoh of Government Wharf has reportedly been dragged to court for impersonation. According to the particulars of offence, Osman was caught in full police uniform which is against the law, and was therefore immediately arrested. The accused informed the court that he was not guilty and was granted bail by Magistrate Steven Conteh in the sum of twenty million leones. The matter was adjoined to 4th May 2009.

Road Accident Kills Two

Local tabloids have disclosed that a Renault car driven by a man in his 20s, has killed one Richard Komba Fillie of the Milton Margai College of Education and Technology (MMCET) and Sam Monday of 18 King Harman Road. The sad incident took place right about the Congo Cross Bridge in Freetown. Two other people were seriously injured in the accident. Accordingly, the driver was reported to have been at a very high speed that resulted in him losing control of the vehicle and went off the road where pedestrians were walking, killing the two. The driver is currently at large.

Training for LUCs and other Ranks

A two-day refresher training for Local Unit Commanders (LUCs) and other ranks of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has ended in the Eastern Region, in Kenema City. The training aimed at enhancing personnel development and management with the aim of improving their skills for better service delivery in their respective areas of operation. Reports say the workshop was funded by the Justice Sector Development Project (JSDP) implemented by the SLP.

GISA Ends Workshop

A reputable female organization, Girl Institute for Self Achievement (GISA), has reportedly ended a one day workshop on the theme "Womens participation in Governance", in Freetown. According to reports, the organization aims at encouraging women in various communities for the purpose of participating in decision making. GISA also conducts skills training for women in order to capacitate them to offer quality services.

APC Sacks another Chief

Local tabloids say the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) has removed one Pa. Mangeyemeh Kamara from his position as Section Chief of Gbonkoboh, Fadugu Town in the Kasongo Chiefdom in Koinadugu District. Reports say since the APC came to power six Chiefs have lost their positions. Reports also say that most of the chiefs are being removed from power on the allegation that they are supporters of the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP).

Lightening kills Okada Rider

Reports have disclosed that one okada rider, Abdul Kanu has been killed by lightening during a heavy downpour of rain in Makeni City. According to reports, residents of Makeni have been gripped with consternation over the spate of fatal incidents in the township. The remains of the deceased have since been buried.

Kordebotihun Youths on Road Maintenance in Kenema

The Youths for Action and Development at Kordebotihun Section in Kenema City have reportedly embarked on road maintenance in their area. The association wants to ensure that the area becomes memorable to bike riders and accessible to the general public. The association was formed in 2004 with the aim of bringing development to the community. Members of the organization are calling on stakeholders especially the Kenema City Council to help them with logistics and other items like food.

French Brigadier General Visits Sierra Leone

Reports say, Brigadier General Oliver Paulus, Commander of the French Force in Senegal, recently paid a working visit to Sierra Leone. According to reports, the aim of the visit was to engage the Ministry of Defence and the Republic of the Sierra Leone Armed Forces on French support for ECOWAS in Sierra Leone and to also see how efficient the RSLAF is in the sub region. Reports say the General presented a gift to the minister as a symbol of friendship between France and Sierra Leone.
