H.E. Dr Salieu Mohamed Turay was among 11 other Ambassadors from Morocco, France, Japan, Jibuti, Serbia, Moldova etc. who also presented letters of credence at the Kremlin ceremony which lasted for nearly an hour.

In his speech, President Medvedev emphasized the importance of enhancing the existing diplomatic ties and strengthening the economic cooperation between the two states. The president also mentioned that Russia has attached much significance to regional security issues on the continent as a whole and pledged its preparedness to participate in peace-keeping operations.

"As a whole our country relies on positive and unifying agenda in the international affairs, and we are ready to develop the widest collaboration with our international partners," Medvedev said.

He further pointed out that Russia appreciates the strengthening of traditional and friendly ties directed towards the extension of political contacts and business connections and many other spheres including the development of tourism and humanitarian connections.

"We speak in favor of further development of mutually advantageous relations with the republic of Sierra Leone, greet the completion of the period of instability and the readiness to concentrate efforts during the restoration of the democratic institutions and economy of the country," President Medvedev said at the ceremony before toasting a glass of campaign with Dr.Turay.

Dr Turay, replaces Mrs. Melrose Kai-Banya, the countrys first female ambassador to the Russian Federation. Dr Salieu Turay is no stranger to the Russian Federation.

Sierra Leones new Ambassador started his medical studies in 1970 in Lvov, Ukraine in the then USSR, and completed in Germany, where he has been practicing medicine and at the same time engaged in several years of school sponsorship of children in Sierra Leone until shortly before his present appointment.

The Minister Counselor at the Sierra Leonean embassy, Mr. Ibrahim Kondoh, and the Embassys first secretary Mr. Henry Nyandemoh were present at the Kremlin ceremony.
