Sierra Leone's Vice President Sam-Sumana Visits America

Vice President Samuel Sam Sumana currently on a visit to the United States of America has briefed members of the Sierra Leonean community about the present development in Sierra Leone under the leadership of President Ernest Bai Koroma and the APC government.


Addressing a well attended meeting with the Sierra Leonean community at a town hall in Minnesota on the second led of his visit, Vice President Sam Sumana highlighted the APC governments development programme in the priority areas of agriculture, energy and infrastructure as espoused by the President.


Amidst resounding applause, the Vice President revealed that the long awaited Bumbuna hydro electric project will soon become operational and that work on the Freetown /Conakry, Kenema/ Pendembu, and Port Loko highways will soon commence.


He extended an invitation to all Sierra Leoneans in Minnesota to participate in their own ways towards the President and governments development goals and also spoke about President Koromas attitudinal and behavioral change agenda, which he added is geared towards the change of attitude of Sierra Leoneans in all aspects of daily lives.


Earlier in a welcome address, the President of the Sierra Leone community in Minnesota Dr. Jonathan Rose  gave a brief history of their  organization and progress made  so far as a group  eager to contribute and participate in the development of Sierra Leone.  


In an other engagement, Vice President Sam Sumana paid a courtesy call on the Governor of the State of Minnesota, Governor Tim Pawlenty in his office at the State Capitol in St. Pauls where he conveyed greetings from the President and thanked the Governor for his states contribution towards his university education and said that his visit was intended to foster partnership and linkages between the State of Minnesota and educational institutions in Sierra Leone.


The Vice President told the Governor that the motive of his visit was to acquaint the Minnesota business community on investment opportunities in Sierra Leone and to promote the fraternal and bilateral ties existing between the government and people of the United States and Sierra Leone.

He extended an invitation to Governor Pawlenty to visit Sierra Leone.


Governor Pawlenty while thanking the Vice President for the visit, revealed that the State of Minnesota was on the verge of sending and trade mission to Africa and even though Sierra Leone was not originally included, consideration will be given to the possibility of her inclusion, he said.


In an other engagement, Vice President Sam Sumana was guest of honor at a luncheon hosted by alma mater, Metropolitan State  university where he entered in 1997 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in management information systems.


The President of the university Dr. Sue Hammersmith in his welcome remarks on behalf of the faculty members and staff, expressed delight and satisfaction for the visit of an alumni of their university in a capacity of a Vice President of Sierra Leone and hoped that the visit will act as an inspiration and motivation to the present students whom will hopefully understand that with hard work, honesty and dedication, every thing is possible.


Vice President Sam Sumana expressed thanks for the honor bestowed on which he said will remain ever green in his mind for the rest of his life.
