18-year old Senior Secondary School pupil, Mohamed Lamin Tarawallie of the Sir Winston Churchill Memorial School at Kissy Dockyard in the east end of Freetown, was Saturday 13th June 2009, stabbed to death at Paddys Entertainment Spot, Aberdeen, in the far west of the city.

Late Mohamed Lamin Tarawallie

According to reports, the deceased, together with relatives and friends, went to the said entertainment spot to witness a show believed to have been organized by a popular student social club in town named ConWards.

At the heat of the jam splash, late Mohamed Lamin reportedly told one of his relatives with whom he was at the dance, that he suspected that certain individuals were monitoring his movement in the hall for reasons he did not know.

The relative, the report continues, then asked Lamin to stay by his side till departure time, which according to the relative, the latter declined to adhere to, on grounds that he was well secured with his friends.

Meanwhile, a certain man was reportedly spotted enviously eying the boys gold chain and other jewelries he was wearing. This was unbeknown to the boy, who reports say was busy merrying at the time.

According to reports, the boy bade farewell to some of his colleagues and relatives and moved to the entrance where he decided to have a short lap on one of the desks, probably waiting for some of his friends.

While inattentively seated, the accused reportedly rushed at him and made a deep gash in the back with a long knife. This sad incident took place around 4:00am according to eye witnesses.

The hall went into confusion as everybody tried to escape, while at the same time the little boy was struggling under the desk where he was later removed, virtually helpless. The intention of those present was to rush him to the Emergency Hospital but for any incomprehensible reason, he was reportedly abandoned by the road side where he breathed his last breath.

Swift efforts were however made by the management of the club to arrest the culprit and handed him over to the police.

However, on Monday at the Congo Cross Police Station where he is detained, the officer dealing with the matter, one Sergeant Lansana, refused to disclose the identity of the culprit to pressmen present.

Information so far gathered from the father of the deceased, Mohamed Lamin Tarawallie (Sr.) who lives at No. 41 Pillar Street in Wellington, intimate that the suspect is a brute almost twice the age of the boy he stabbed.

"I am not convinced that the man who killed my son wanted to rob him. There must be a serious reason for what he did which I want the police to thoroughly investigate," he told a cross section of the press at the police station, adding that even if it was an attack from a rival club or clique member as many are alleging, he was not expecting it from a man far older than his son.

He however did not totally dismiss the possibility that rivalry and hatred amongst youngsters from rival clubs must have been another factor.

"I was told my son too belongs to a certain club and that he was a group leader, so maybe some rival club members hired a thug to kill him," the distressed father continued.

As at press time, police were seeking information from close friends of the boy, especially those he was in company with that night, regarding what must have led to his brutal killing.

It is however, disheartening to note that since the incident occurred, his close friends with whom he went to the show, remain at large, thereby opening rooms for suspicion as to their involvement to what seem like an organized murder.
