Standard Chartered Bank Wins Global Business Award

It has been reported that the Standard Chartered Bank has won the Global Business Coalition Award on HIV Education program. According to reports, the bank was honoured with the Community Investment Award during their Annual Business Excellence Awards. Reports say the bank has always made a significant strive in the fight against HIV/AIDS in 2006 and that the bank made a pledge towards the education of one million people against HIV and AIDS by 2010.

HIV Rate May Rise in Kenema

Reports have it that a teacher working in partnership with the Network Movement for Justice and Development (NMJD) at the Saint Lukes Commercial Secondary School in Kenema named Jenkins Katua, has disclosed that the rampant and uncontrollable circulation of expired condoms in the region might led to the increase of HIV. He made this concern based on the fact that the number of illiterate beneficiaries who cannot distinguish between the expired condoms from the good ones is alarming. He therefore called on all stakeholders concern to educate the people more effectively on the good use of condoms.

UK Visa can be obtained in Sierra Leone

As recent reports alleged that the issuance of visa has now been transferred to Gambia, the British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone Ian Hughes has made clear that applications for the British visa has not be suspended, but that the UK Border Agency is using new technology to consolidate the back office to a regional centre in Banjul. The High Commissioner is said to have disclosed that Sierra Leoneans will still present their passports and supporting documents to the High Commission in Freetown and Visas would be issued.

Pharmacy Board Holds Stakeholders Meet in Kenema

The Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone has reportedly held a regional stakeholders meeting in Kenema on the theme: "Presenting the Health of the Nation". According to reports, the aim of the meeting was to stop drug peddling and prevent the distribution of counterfeit medicines in Sierra Leone. The Acting Registrar of Pharmacy Board, Wiltshire C.N. Johnson is reported as saying that the Board has achieved a measurable success in the fight against drug peddling and the distribution of counterfeit medicines. The people and stakeholders were also advised to give adequate information to the police about any counterfeit drugs.

FBC English Department Organized Drama Festival

The English Department of Fourah Bay Colleges (FBC) has reportedly organized English and French dramas. The dramas are performed by students of the English Department. According to reports, a play was acted on "Things Fall Apart" which depicts a pastoral or rural setting where civilization was far fetched. The other drama entitled "The Solution" was done in French, which also portrays faith and destiny. Another play was also staged which ridicules government and poverty. Reports say, all the spectators cheered and approved the actors.
