A wild and mysterious fire that burst out yesterday, Thursday 20th August 2009 has claimed the 42A Siaka Stevens Street building that hosts the Edrina Chambers headed by one Pa Momodu Fofanah and three other offices namely KOMAT Foundation, BASCO Holdings International and the private residence of a Lebanese nationals named Alie Basma, leaving properties worth Millions of Leones and very important documents all destroyed. According to the Officer-in-Charge of Green Watch, Mr. Henry Lahai who also doubles as the Station Officer National Fire Force, they received a telephone call that informed them about a fire outbreak at Siaka Steven Street in Freetown.

"On our arrival, he went on, we climbed the nearby house for us to have access to put off the fire" said Mr. Lahai, adding that some of his officers had to forcibly break through the roof to gain access into the building where they were able to rescue two ladies named Ramatulai Jalloh and Ramatu Turay who were already trapped in a smoke-filled room. According to him, the fire started from a room occupied by one Alie Basma, a Lebanese national and was believed to have been caused by an electric fire as a result of electricity supplied by the National Power Authority (NPA) that came in minutes before the fire erupted.

Though they successfully put out the fire in less than thirty minutes, four offices, namely BASCO Holding international, KoMAT foundation, Edrina Chambers and Alie Basmas room were already completely burnt down, damaging computers, freezers, office furniture, among other items.Speaking to one of the rescued victims, Ramatulai Jalloh of Edrina Chambers, she informed that she was busy working on her computer when she heard people shouting out of the building.

"I was about to run out of the building when I noticed the smoke has overcome the whole office and I was already stuck in the room. There I was until I was rescued by those gallant Fire Force Officers," said Ramatulai Jalloh as she profusely thanked the National Fire Force Officers.

On to press time, Alie Basma was not home for interview.
