The Minister of Information and Government Spokesman for the Republic of Sierra Leone, Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo, has late in the night of yesterday August 24th 2009 urged Sierra Leoneans that they must start thinking "big" and emulate the style of countries like Zimbabwe and Guinea whom he described as progressive Nations that Sierra Leone should strive to be like because they did not hesitate to lavish cash on State sponsored Government delegations to other countries.Minister Kargbo was speaking over the late night programme on the United Nations Radio in response to a question from local journalist, DJ Base as to who it was who financially sponsored the huge Government delegation that President Koroma recently led to Brazil in his just concluded State visit to that country.
Minister Kargbo in a defensive tone of voice positioned that it was not at all wrong for Sierra Leone to spend that quantum of money on such a trip as he went on to cite how Zimbabwe was spending much more than that for their delegation in Brazil. He spoke of the discussions between the Zimbabwe Ambassador to Brazil and their own delegation from Sierra Leone. Some of the names cited by I.B. Kargbo, as having been on the Presidentís delegation, include the Paramount Chief of Tikonko Chiefdom in Bo District as well as the Private Sector Adviser to the President, Oluniyi Robbin-Coker, the Personal Assistant to the President, Brian Gilpin, the Sierra Leone Ambassador to America, Bockarie Stevens and his First Secretary Saspo Sankoh in addition to numerous Cabinet ministers like Finance, Foreign Affairs, Agriculture and Information alongside other junior officials like local journalists Sheka Shekito Tarawalie and Claudius Beckley.
