Two universities the University of Ibadan in Nigeria and Kenyatta University of Kenya will finally end the battle for the prestigious Zain Africa challenge scholars trophy on Saturday 29th August 2009. These two schools have made it to the finals after facing tough challenges, University Ibadan beat the University of Lagos and Kenyatta University beat Zambian university to make it to the finals.

The academic quiz or the battle of brains as it has been dubbed sees universities from the West Africa challenging East Africas dominance in the competition. Since it was launched two years ago, Egerton University from Kenya has maintained a tight grip on the competition winning both editions. The past editions featured universities from Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

The Universities challenge is part of Zains Corporate Social Responsibility program which largely focuses on education. Additionally, Zain Africa Challenge highlights the excellent educational opportunities at African universities. "ZAC highlights our commitment to developing young people who are Africas greatest resource. The challenge is not just about winning the tournaments. We at Zain are providing these young people with an opportunity to also build networks and friendships that will last them a lifetime,"

Both Universities hope to work away not only with the prestigious Zain Scholars trophy but with 50 thousand dollars in institutional grant for their university and 5 thousand dollars to each member of the winning team.
