City Council Set to Target Homes

 

The Freetown City Council (FCC) will soon extend the collection of local taxes to residential homes in Freetown. According to reports, the expected target of tax payers is yet to be met. Reports say most council in the country can now boast of over 80% of tax collection from residents, while the FCC cannot boast of even 50%. 


Man Found Dead at Goderich

 

Reports have it that the corpse of a 35-year-old man Saidu Bangura was found in a gutter along the Freetown Road at Goderich. According to reports, there were wounds on the back and head of the deceased. Police are investigating the matter. It was also reported that the spate of armed robbery was in an uncontrollable increase in that community.


Kailahun Needs Help

 

It has been reported that basic amenities like pipe borne water, toilets, health facilities, road networks, market structures, and institutions of higher learning are few among the numerous things lacking in the Kailahun district. According to reports, the legacies of the war are still lingering in minds of people in that district since the district is still in a deplorable condition. Reports say pasts and present governments, including other development partners have failed to improve the living standard of the people.


Retired Sojas Wounded & Arrested

 

Former members of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, who were recently retired on grounds of been mentally and chronically ill were reportedly arrested and wounded at the Defense Headquarters in Freetown. According to reports, these ex-solders went on the rampage and used unprintable invectives against the Minister of Defence since the ministry was proving reluctant to pay the ex-soldiers their benefits. These ex-soldiers were reportedly chased away, wounded and several were arrested by their colleagues who are still serving the army.

 

Former Bo Mayor Laid to Rest


The former Mayor of Bo City, Betty Torma Elias has reportedly been laid to rest in Bo. According to reports, the former Mayor died in Freetown after falling sick. Reports furthered that the late woman had been both politically highs and lows. She became the Mayor of Bo during the era of NPRC and later went on to contest for a Parliamentary seat under the PLP.

 

Chaos at Ports

 

Hundred of workers attached to the Sierra Leone Ports Authority have reportedly went berserk as both Mr. Crispin M. Cole and Captain H.A Bloomer were suspended by the board for issuing out 77 million Leones to the acting G M. According to reports, the Acting GM Captain Bloomer was suspended from office prior to his demand of 77 million Leones as leave allowance which was paid to him by the Chief Accountant without the approval of the board director.

 

Armed Robbers Terrorize Bo

 

Reports have it that armed robberies have intensified in the southern city of Bo. According to reports, OSD personnel have recently engaged in a fierce battle with the robbers at a place called Kissy Town in Bo while trying to raid the residence of one Komba Dafo. Reports say one notorious armed robber known as Yellow Man was severely wounded in the gun exchange battle.
