VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT - ECOWAS Court of Justice

VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

For the purpose of strengthening the staff capacity of the Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS, applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following positions.

POST 1:  REVISOR (PORTUGUESE)

                    CATEGORY P5

               DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reports directly to the Director of Administration and Finance;

Supervises and Co-ordinates the work of the Portuguese translators and revises all translations in Portuguese.

Will also translate other Court documents in Portuguese.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

A degree in translation or a bachelors degree plus a certificate in translation in Portuguese with a minimum of six (6) years post qualification experience, or eight (8) years of confirmed experience in translation in an international organization in lieu of certificate in translation.

Must be computer Literate.

A degree in Law will be an advantage.

Salary Scale P5 (UA 30, 551.83 - 34, 541.51)

POST2:    INTERPRTER PORTUDUESE

                      CATEGORY P5

                       DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides interpretation into Portuguese/English and Portuguese/French simultaneously/consecutively during Court Sessions, meeting and discussions.

Assists the judges and staff members as required, and must be capable of working in a group of highly experience interpreters

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

A University degree plus a diploma or certificate in interpretation; or full training in an interpretation school with in at least eight (8) years post qualification experience in interpretation.

Legal knowledge would be an advantage;

Must be computer Literate;

Salary Scale P5 (UA 30,551.83-34,541.51)

POST 3:   ACCOUNTANT

                    CATEGORYP3

            DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reports directly to the Chief of Account Division;

Supervises the work of the general service staff placed under his authority;

Assist in the preparation of budget, preparation of financial statement and in the analysis of accounting data of the Division;

Prepares, follows, controls and analyses the execution of budgetary information;

Ensures the regular presentation of report concerning management of advances, jobs, missions, and purchases;

Ensure the justification of advances within the appropriate deadline;

Examines and certifies reports of advance justifications;

Prepares advance balance statement that are not justified for all the staff of the Court;

Carries out any other duties that may be assigned him/her in relation to the job profile.

 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

A degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or Business Administration;

Five (5) years professional experience;

A part qualification of a formal Professional Accountancy e.g. (CA, ACCA, CIMA etc) would be an advantage;

Strong knowledge of financial reporting, financial statements analysis and financial control techniques;

Must be computer literate;

Knowledge of a second official working language would be an advantage;

Salary Scale P3 (UA 21, 566.67 - 25,991.07)

POST4:   INFORMATION OFFICER

                    CATEGORYP3

            DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reports directly to the Head of Division of Communication;

Will be in charge of the Court Information Unit;

Will have the responsibility of publicizing and promoting Court achievements and programmes;

Will carry out public relations activities and sensitization;

Coordinates distribution of print and audio - visual materials;

Adapt and/or writes Court information materials and arranges for distribution and publication

Assist visiting Court Officials, organize and cover press conferences when necessary;

Arrange interviews with media for visiting Court Officials;
Draft correspondence and produce reports on his activities for the Head of Division;

Carries out any other duties that may be assigned him/her in relation to his/her job profile;

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

           Must possess a Bachelors degree in Mass Communications or Humanities plus a Post-graduate diploma in Journalism.

           Minimum of five (5) years relevant post-qualification experience;

           Additional experience in public relation will be an asset;

           Must be computer literate;

           Must be fluent in English or French;

           A working Knowledge of the other language will be an asset.

           Salary Scale P3 (UA 21,566.67-25,991.07)

POST5:   SENIOR RECORDER

                    CATEGORY P3

               DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Recorder is responsible to the Registrars;

He attends Court proceedings;

He coordinates the activities of others recorders;

He takes charges of the recording of Court proceedings, as well debates in the Court, and ensures their faithful transcription;

He takes the minutes of Court proceedings;

He ensure the upkeep of the recorder Court proceedings;

He informs the Court Registrars on any ob servable anomaly with regard to the safe upkeep of the reordered Court proceedings;

He takes part, together with the Court Registrars, in all activities geared towards improving the functioning of the Court Registry,

He executes any other duty that may be assigned to him, either by the Chief Registrar or the Deputy Chief Registrar in line with official duties.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

A minimum of First Degree in Law;

Five (5) years of post qualification cognate experience in a capacity of jurist;

A previous experience in the judiciary, especially within a Court Registry shall be an added advantage;

Be a computer literate and have the ability to manipulate electronic gadgets;

Possess high skills in writing judicial documents, and

Be a team player, and ready to work in a multicultural environment

Salary Scale P3 (UA 21, 566.67 - 25,991.07)

OTHER CONDITIONS

For candidates to be admitted, they are required to fulfill the following additional conditions.

The candidate must be a citizen of an ECOWAS Member State;

The candidate must not be more than fifty(50) years of age at moment of recruitment and must be fluent in and have working knowledge of  one of the official languages of the Community (English, French, or Portuguese);

Knowledge of a second official language will be and advantage.
