Why Blame Ernest Koroma? Did the APC Bend Your Back For You?

One of my most favourite quotes in this world is the one uttered by Martin Luther King Jnr. on 3rd April 1968 in Memphis Tennessee as part of his famous Ive Been to the Mountaintop Speech.According to Martin Luther King, A man cant ride your back unless it is bent.

This now brings me to what, in my opinion, is a recent totally mis-placed cry from some sections of the National Polity that ruling party APC Leader, President Ernest Bai Koroma is to be blamed for allegedly bribing or buying-over or browbeating or strong-arming members of the Opposition who then proceed to either pass silly legislature unchallenged, publicly defect over to the APC or secretly act as Moles and Fifth Columnists passing information and intelligence from within their party to the APC Leader.

Take a recent pro-SLPP New People Online article which alleges that Ernest Koroma has bribed SLPP Parliamentarians! They blame Ernest for the  inability of their own MPs in detecting the flaws in the 2009 Public Broadcaster Act! And what about the 2008 independent Anti Corruption Commission Act that SLPP MPs helped to pass?

Under the Parliamentary Leadership of Hon. Emmanuel Sell-Game Tommy and Hon. Momoh Compromised Pujeh, the SLPPs Parliamentary back has been properly bent down low for APC to climb and ride them! Why blame Ernest Koroma for riding your back? Did APC bend your back for you?

My questions to those people blaming Ernest Koroma are:

  • Why blame Ernest Koroma if your party contains leaders who put their gluttonous stomachs before your partys self-respect.
  • Why blame Ernest Koroma if you, the ordinary members of your party, sit back in silent complacency and acquiescently watch as your elected leadership turn themselves into Dumb persons (MUMUs) even whilst your partys interests are being auctioned down the international river for a few thousand United Nations dollars carelessly thrown at certain greedy, selfish members of your elected leadership?
  • Why blame Ernest Koroma if your party mistakenly catapults into important positions of Parliamentary and/or Executive leadership, persons unfit to be leaders because they have corruption issues hanging over their heads that can be used by the ruling class to intimidate them and compromise the well-being of your party?
  • Why blame Ernest Koroma if your party mistakenly catapults into important positions of Parliamentary and/or Executive leadership, persons unfit to be leaders because they lack enough integrity to keep them content in poverty and so can be easily bribed to compromise the well-being of your party?

Ernest Koroma is a politician and politicians learn to take advantage of situations that would provide benefit to their ultimate aim of attaining and retaining power for themselves.

If Ernest Koroma sees a party whose elected persons are cheaply bought and who can sell their colleague partisans interests for their own small lunch money, he will have to be a foolish politician not to rise up to the plate and do what he has to do for his own partys promotion and survival. And so far, with regards political strategies, Ernest Koroma is definitely not a Play-Cook politician. He might be hapless in matters of Governance (No Light, No Water, Hard-Ship, etc. etc.) but when it comes to political manoeuvrings, he is in a superior class.

The people criticising Ernest Koroma for allegedly buying over opposition partisans from the SLPP and the PMDC should stop doing that and refocus their energies into condemning and shaming the opposition partisans who are selling their party and colleague partisans for coco-ebbeh (a bowl of porridge).

This is where I applauded a recent op-ed piece in a pro-APC tabloid that flamed the likes of Fatmata Hassan and S.B. Saccoh instead of welcoming them into APC. They were rightfully damned.

Do not blame Ernest Koroma. Blame the ones who have sold themselves to him. Why has no-one been able to bribe or intimidate certain newspapers like Awareness Times all this time? It is simply because no-one sees these newspapers backs bent so no-one can ride these newspapers Editorial Desks.

Martin Luther Kings words were that whenever men and women straighten their backs up, they are going somewhere. It is time for the so-called opposition to straighten their backs up or else they are going nowhere but backwards. And I really mean BACKWARDS to exactly where Siaka Stevens left off with their forefathers.

For now, us citizens can only glumly watch from the sidelines as Ernest Koroma enjoys the free ride he is being given on the backs of the politicians in the SLPP and the PMDC. Some people like to blame APCs Leader Ernest Koroma when it was not APC nor Ernest Koroma who bent their backs for him to ride them like the donkeys they are.
