The biological parents and other relatives of a 12 years old girl, who was recently given a merciless beating and later died, have appealed for the matter to be withdrawn from the police, on grounds that it would be settled as a family affair.
This disclosure was made by the Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the Ross Road Police Station, Chief Superintendent Fayia Sellu on Tuesday 8th September 2009 during the weekly police press briefing held at the George Street Headquarters of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP).
ďThe parents and relatives approached me at my office and requested that they wanted the matter to be withdrawn from court, where it is presently awaiting trial. They said the want the matter to be amicably settled at family level,Ē LUC Fayia Sellu said.
According to the LUC, the parents also demanded that the corpse be handed over to them for burial.
The LUC has insisted that the matter continues, adding that it was not a case to be settled at home. Meanwhile, the police have insisted that the corpse would not be released to the parents until a post mortem is conducted.
Earlier, the LUC told pressmen that they discovered the remains of the girl, lying naked on a bare floor, after the police received a tip off in relation to the issue.
The postmortem was expected to have been conducted on the girl yesterday Wednesday 9th September 2009.
It could be recalled that 12 years old Lucinda Saudatu Kamara met her demise after she was mercilessly beaten by her guardians, Haja Edna Kamara, Hawa Kamara and Ibrahim Conteh of 30 Kennedy Street in Freetown. It was alleged that the girl misplaced the sum of Le.15, 000 (fifteen thousand Leones) that was given to her for the purpose of purchasing a gallon of kerosene on Tuesday 8th September 2009, thus faced with the wrath of her guardians.
