82 Resign from PMDC


Local tabloids have revealed that not less than 82 members have tendered their resignation letters to the Secretariat of the Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) party. According to reports, the members were alleging that the PMDC was operating in a very undemocratic manner. They alleged that the party was not going by the dictates of its constitution. It was reported that the party has lost it national character to regionalism, tribalism, nepotism and sectionalism.


Local Tax Brutality to be investigated


Reports have disclosed that an investigative team was soon to be set up to look into allegations of beating, harassment and theft of Le 2,500,000 by local tax collectors at Calaba Town checkpoint Freetown. It was reported that a group of local tax collectors mobbed and inflicted body injuries on a mechanic, Malikie Bah and his apprentice Abdul Rahman Barrie. Several other people have also complained of harassment meted on them by local tax collectors in Freetown.


14 Back to Work at Lands Ministry


14 Surveyors of the Ministry of Lands and Country Planning who were sent on indefinite leave have reportedly resumed duties in the Ministry. The Minister of Lands Dr. Denis Sandy reportedly said there were series of allegation against these officers in the Ministry. According to him, the surveyors were sent on leave in order to summon an independent investigation regarding the allegations.


Traders Quit Salone


Reports say several business tycoons including Lebanese, Guineans and other Sierra Leoneans have left the country due to poor business climate. According to reports, the departure of those tycoons might not be unconnected with the depreciation of Leones and the inflationary trends in Sierra Leone.   


Armed Robbers take over Kamanda Town


Reports have it that armed robbers were having a field day at Kamanda Town around the Fourah Bay College Campus vicinity in Freetown. According to reports, several people residing in the area have complained the malpractices of the robbers. The robbers recently launched series of attacks on residents of the hillside of the city.


Koidu Town Council Unveils Market


Local tabloids have it that the Koidu New Sembehun Town Council (KNSTC) recently handed over a new market to the people of Tankoro Chiefdom, Kono District. According to reports, the project was approved by the erstwhile government. Community members had expressed thanks to all those who contributed to ensure that the construction was finished.


Nigeria Grabs Zains Education Trophy
 

The University of Ibadan in Nigeria recently emerged victorious in the Africa academic battle to clinch the prestigious Zain African Challenge (ZAC) 2009 Trophy. Reports have it that 32 Universities in Anglophone countries locked horns in the battle. The winning would be awarded the cash sum of US$ 50, 000 as institutional grant and five thousand dollars for each of the team members.
