The sixteen day session which saw the formal opening on Monday September 7, 2009, will be officially closed on Tuesday September 22nd 2009.

Declaring the formal opening of the session, Rt. Leader of Sierra Leone delegation Hon. Ibrahim Sorie described ECOWAS parliament as one of the pillars of ECOWAS organization, which main role is that of an advisory.

He said the ECOWAS parliament is made of representation from fourteen West African countries excluding Ivory Coast, which is yet to have parliamentary representation.

Hon. Sorie said the selection to ECOWAS Parliament was done by proportional representation, in accordance with the percentage of representation of political parties in each countries parliament.
