The heat is on. Saturday 10th¬†October promises to be an unforgettable day in Nairobi, Kenya. The 2009 awards, hosted by hip up icon Wyclef Jean who will also perform at the awards promiseís to be a thrilling live musical spectacle which will pay tribute to the vibrancy and the talent of the African contemporary music scene.
MTV and Zain have set the tone for the 2009 MTV Awards Africa Music Awards with Zain. The first performers signed to appear at the glittering Awards ceremony which is guaranteed to set the stage alight at the Moi indoor arena at the Kasarani indoor Stadium, in Nairobi on the 10th¬†October.
Representing the best urban music on the continent will be 2008 Best Female winner, Wahu, South Africaís Afro Soul Queen Lira, Nigerian rapper M.I. and Ghanaian dancehall super star, Samini. Many more artists will be announced in the coming weeks.

Africaís undiscovered music talent will also be revealed during the show as¬† amateur musicians from all over the continent have earned there chance at music immortality by winning through to the final of My Video contest. The finalists come from Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Sierra Leone.¬† They stand a chance of winning their very own MAMA trophy and a trip to the Awards in Kenya. Voting is underway and the finalists for Sierra Leone are Esther Michael, Sonia Faisal and Rosaline Strasser Ė King
Other categories in the award are Best Female, Best Male, Best Performer, Best Group, Best Alternative, Best Hip Hop, Best R&B, Artist of the Year, Best New Act, and Best Video.
The awards will be broadcasted on TV channels around the world from 17th¬†October 2009, including MTV base (DSTV Channel 322, Daarsat) and terrestrial channels in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania Ghana, Nigeria and of course on SLBS TV in Sierra Leone.
