New Traffic Regulations for Bike Riders
Commercial bike riders in the Koinadugu District have expressed dissatisfaction at the introduction of new regulations by the Local Unit Commander. Reports say commercial motor bikes must switch on their head lights during the day. According to reports, the continuous switching on of head lights during the day will destroy batteries. Police say the law is entrenched in the Traffic Act, and that bike riders must abide by it.
Boat Survivors Arrested
Local tabloids say police have arrested two survivors of the boat that recently capsized off the coast of Sierra Leone between Shenge and Tombo. According to report, at least 221 people including children are still feared missing. Police have mounted a man hunt for the boat owner.
Petroleum Delegation Gives Hope to Salone
Reports say a four-man delegation from ANADARKO Petroleum, including the Country Director for Sierra Leone and Liberia, Bernard R. Sanger have assured President Koroma that there is hope in the off-shore drilling for oil and gas in Sierra Leone. Reports say in the exploration findings, the company has been able to identify hydro carbon. According to reports, a note book containing further information has been presented to the President.
Police Declare Suspect Wanted
One Mr. Razak Deen has been declared wanted by police following the alleged murder of his elder brother, Mr. Mohamed Deen at Mile 91. According to reports, many arrests have been made in connection with the said murder.Reports alleged that the members of the spiritual traditional poro society have also been accused of having a hand in the death.
Africell Subscribers Demand Extension
Reports have it that over seven hundred subscribers of Africell, across Sierra Leone, have requested the mobile company to extend it ongoing "For Him and For Her" promotion. According to reports, the draws were supposed to end past Saturday and its grand final draw on September 20, 2009.
Transport Minister Should Resign
Residents from Tombo and Shenge communities are reportedly demanding the resignation of the Transports Minister, Mr. Allieu Pat Sowe. Similar calls have also been made by some members of the civil society. Reports say during the erstwhile SLPP government, the Transport Minister, Dr Prince Harding was suspended during the Paramount Helicopter disaster and did resign honorably.
30 Armed Robbers Arrested
Reports have revealed that over thirty armed robbers and loiters have been arrested investigated and charged to court for various crimes. This, according to reports, has reduced armed robbers in the country. Police say they have mounted midnight check points all over the capital Freetown to clamp down on robbers.
Principals Caution over Extra Charges
The Deputy Director of Education, Kenema District John Amara Swaray has reportedly warned all principals and head teachers in the district against extra charges in the schools. The Director has reportedly formed the School Complaint Committee where parents and the general public will make complaints against any school malpractices.
