SLPP National Executive Member Resigns to Join APC

When this newspaper started its series on the Playcook and Sell-Game tactics that had permeated the SLPP hierarchy, it was not immediately clear to many SLPP members just how seriously their party was in deep straits but as more and more facts tumble out, many true SLPP members are now seeing the reality in what Awareness Times has been saying.

The latest revelation that has left many SLPP members stunned beyond belief is the resignation from the SLPP National Executive of Mr. Mohamed Moiwo Makaya, the man they popularly elected at the just concluded March 2009 Convention to be a Trustee for the Party in the Eastern Province.

It now appears from allegations floated that for quite some time now spanning into months, Mr. Makaya has been a spy for the All Peoples Congress wherein he would attend SLPP meetings in Kenema and pass on information to the APC and then do the same with attendance in SLPP National Executive Meetings where he would again pass word to the APC.

This would have continued un-noticed had it not been for some astute Kenema youths who reported that Mr. Makaya had been allegedly given a quantum of tens of thousands of dollars plus a new 4Wheel Drive Jeep and assistance for his son to travel to America by the ruling APC Party.

One SLPP youth leader named Soko Kaisamba reportedly carpeted Makaya on these allegations at the SLPP Party Office in Kenema and in the light of the indisputable evidences that Soko Kaisamba and others confronted him with, Mr. Makaya was forced to confess that indeed he was working with the APC and retorted before storming out of the SLPP premises that he did not want to die a poor man in opposition but he wanted to enjoy his retired age as a respected big man in the society of the ruling party. This reportedly happened last week.

Mr. Makaya however in a telephone interview with this newspaper yesterday, accepted that he had been "collaborating" with the APC "for some time now" but strenuously denied he was paid money or a Jeep to jump ship. Makaya insists that he bought the Jeep with his own money and sent his son to America last week Thursday out of his own funds.

"I am a rich man who has been doing diamond business for a long time now. I decided to quit the SLPPs National Executive and join the ruling APC because it is my democratic right to do so. I am a democratic man," the APCs newest member in Kenema asserted yesterday.

When he was asked if he had any pangs of conscience to have abandoned those who gullibly voted him unopposed to be the SLPPs National Executive Trustee for the Eastern Province, Mr. Makaya became very agitated and extremely abusive over the telephone.

"It is my b1*&$%y democratic right to jump from SLPP to APC so Ive done! Anyone who does not like it can go jump into the Sewa or Moa river and cool off," Mr. Makaya shouted.

Meanwhile, the APCs Resident Minister for the Eastern Province, Hon. William Juana Smith told Awareness Times yesterday that the APC was welcoming the erstwhile SLPP National Executive member "with open arms into our warm embrace".

When the SLPPs National Executive Chairman, John Benjamin was contacted on the issue yesterday, he declined to comment saying he had only just received the Resignation Letter yesterday and was perusing it with other members of his team in Freetown following which they would be in a better position to comment on the contents of the resignation by such a senior "trusted" member of the SLPP.

It will be recalled that in one of our recent publications entitled as "Why Blame Ernest Koroma? Did APC Bend Your Backs?" we had alerted that although John Benjamin was trusting of his SLPP colleagues in the Partys hierarchy, our own intelligence information was indicating that some of his colleagues are Fifth Columnists and Spies for the APC lurking within the hierarchy of the SLPPs Executive and Parliamentary Leadership from where they were passing information to the Ernest Koroma led APC which was making good use of such information about all SLPPs secret strategies and plans.

It will be recalled that this is exactly how the late former President Siaka Stevens used to operate in the seventies. He used violence and intimidation against one set of SLPP politicians whom he could not buy and those he could buy over, he splashed emoluments of all sorts at them to win them over.

Meanwhile, with the death of Sidikie Janneh and the resignation of Mohamed Moiwo Makaya, the SLPPs 31-man National Executive is now whittled down to 29 - man. How many of the remaining twenty nine members are true and loyal to ordinary SLPP members is the big question now on many lips.
