Awareness Times Newspaper has made an editorial decision not to publish an analysis of the performance of the ruling Ernest Koroma led APC Government over the last two years. We have also decided not to analyse the performance of the John Benjamin led main opposition SLPP Party over the same two-year period.

Our reasons here follow:

Upon being voted in, President Koroma had repeatedly asked to be given three years within which he said he would turn the country around and so whilst the second anniversary is a milestone, we think it would be premature to lambast or praise anything done at this time by the Koroma regime. Koroma has managed to keep the country together at peace with itself so far even though are numerous other lapses omitted or committed. His vision is supposed to be implemented within three years at which point we, the citizens, should bring in our promissory notes for his attention. For now, we will not analyse the two years passed. What we are going to do is instead focus on the next twelve months that would be added to this concluded twenty-four months to give us the thirty six months within which the country should have turned around for the better if Ernest Koroma is to be believed.

Similarly, the John Benjamin led SLPP team is also relatively new and the party really suffered significant setbacks during the multitude of vicious, unprovoked invasions of their Party Headquarters by thugs aligned to the ruling APC. These attacks left the party reeling for its balance. Additionally, prior to the election of this new team in March this year, the SLPP Party had been leaderless and left virtually rudderless with the forced resignation of their erstwhile leader, Solomon Ekuma Berewa in late 2007. So the period between the Berewa resignation and the Benjamin election was more a waste of space as far as democratic opposition was concerned.

In the light of the above, we have decided not to publish our proposed analysis of the successes and failures of the ruling APC or those of the opposition SLPP over the last two years.

We apologise to all our readers who had looked forward to an insightful analysis of the two main parties. We promise you all that when we release the 36-months analysis next year, it will be well worth the wait. See you in September 2010!
