A decomposed corpse, on Wednesday 16th September 2009, was discovered at Room 222 of the National Stadium Hostel in Freetown.

Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the National Stadium complex, Saidu Jalloh, explained to the Awareness Times that the deceased, named Tom Caurray, had lived at the hostel for the past four (4) years and was considered a tenant".

The CSO went on that no relative of the deceased was known as throughout his four years stay at the hostel, he spent his life and time alone.

He said certain people recently started coming with food for the deceased. "The food was normally left at the reception, from where the deceased used to collect it," CSO Jalloh informed.

Past Saturday 12th September 2009, CSO Jalloh explained that they brought food for him and left it as usual at the reception, adding that this time round the deceased did not show up to collect his food.

He said on the following day when the pans were about to be picked up by the person who brought the food, they tried in vain to reach the deceased on his phone line to notify him. He said the phone rang repeatedly with nobody picking the call.

He said since then, they did not set eyes on the deceased until past Wednesday when an offensive odor started coming out from his room. This situation forced the management to report the matter to the police. According to CSO Jalloh, police personnel were assigned to the scene to witness the breaking into the room of the deceased to ascertain what was amiss.

On forcing the door open, CSO Jalloh explained that they discovered the deceased lying dead inside his toilet with his head on the floor. Accordingly, he was without trousers.

According to the Communications Officer of the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports, Alhaji Unisa Deen Sesay, the deceased neither had a known relative, friend, girl friend or errand boy, adding that the only thing known about the deceased is that he was a friend of the former Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Dennis Bright, who is currently out of the country.

The Environmental Officer of the Freetown City Council, Sulaiman Parker, said they had to intervene by taking responsibility of the burial, adding that he was buried as a pauper, since there was nobody to identify him. He added that the corpse had to be immediately buried because it was in a very bad condition. He called on people who knew the deceased to come up with relevant information so as to be able to trace his relatives and notify them of his death.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports monitored by the Awareness Times intimate that the deceased was a double masters degree holder, who was residing with his wife in the United States of America before they fell apart. The deceased was reportedly a deportee and was living a frustrated life in isolation. He was buried at the Circular Road Cemetery.
