I am currently on a three-week visit here in the U.S. and I had just left my cousinís Springfield apartment in Virginia after three days stay with him. The information I had been gathering so far from other APC members in Virginia (Springfield), Philadelphia (West Phili) and New Jersey (Jersey City), had said it all. My few daysí visits at these places and the information I gathered from other friends I spoke with, emphasized the dictatorship and hate that some members had in mind against Osman Conteh Ė Chairman of the APC NA branch; and this is very bad and sad. These are the Johnny-just-come in the APC after the 2007 election. The decision to suspend him; and to back-stab and lie against an unpaid, patriotic and altruistic Sierra Leonean like him, was not looking good in the eyes of well-meaning Sierra Leoneans in the US; and very much unacceptable even in the United Kingdom. The way things are currently being manipulated here in the APC North America branch by the Ambassador and his team is very disturbing and demoralizing for the entire APC NA executive.
Before this ambassador was assigned to the Washington DC office, APC NA members were doing just fine. It now seems like the Ambassador and his I.T.L.A. team came to extricate the people who elected the chairman of the APC party in North America. Please do not get me wrong. I am also getting other concrete information that the former NPRC soldier is also claiming to be the APC chairman Washington DC area; while Leslie Allen is just the Acting chairman who chairs only three or four members at most conference calls. WHY? You may well reflect on the statement made in the title of this article. There are many APC members who feel they have little or no control over the political party they used to love and cherish. Nannette Thomas is good at gossiping; Rtd Colonel Idriss Kamara loves lavishing money to buy fame; Leslie Allen blindfolds the party leaders and poor Abdul Berro, the NA branch Secretary, remains the stupid and half-baked sacrificial lamb. These things that are happening to the APC party in NA have totally gone beyond control. Members donít even show up at meetings or teleconferences at all; and are these ďI.T.L.A.Ē team members (Idriss-Thomas-Leslie-Abdul) and Ambassador Stevens trying to help President Ernest Bai Koroma or the APC party come 2012? Oh! My God!¬† Hell NO!
If Ambassador Bockarie Stevens is stepping away from his diplomatic duties as an ambassador for all Sierra Leoneans and now allows himself to be blindfolded by the ďI.T.L.AĒ team, then, this is troubling and certainly not good for our motherland. We want Ambassador Bockarie Stevens to know that, he does not have control of the lives of any of these members of the North American branch. No one controls their thoughts or their feelings, because these are inalienable rights that they have the liberty to enjoy as Sierra Leoneans at all times; and more importantly, they have the freedom to exercise these same rights as members of the APC in the U.S. in Britain and in other parts of the world. While it is true that the ambassador may remotely promise jobs to some members in exchange for their support and cheap gossip, it is important for him to understand that most members sacrificed their time, lives and wealth to help the APC regain its standing after it was overthrown by the NPRC soldiers in the early nineties. Where was ambassador Bockarie then?
I have known Dr.
Ernest Bai Koroma, for quite some time starting from our days at FBC where he was one year ahead of me during these golden years with ďBockieĒ. I was more active in the APC party than he (President Koroma) was. We had respect for each other and I cherished his leadership.¬† If we donít wake up out of this deep slumber of destroying the leadership of the APC North America branch, this noble party will slowly lose its political allies. Not only that, it will remain as a crawling political organization capable of satisfying only a few members (I.T.L.A.). If Ambassador Stevens continues to dictate how people talk at political meetings, and insisting that ¬†members should address Idrissa Kamara as Rtd. Col.; and who Leslie should talk to; and also who should belong to this or what committee, the¬† APC NA will be a lame duck and will eventually be nothing but mere history. If the Ambassador and the ďI.T.L.A.Ē team want to control all, they will loose all. They can not control the thoughts and feelings of other political supporters. This controlling freak attitude is killing the party. Bockarie should either be redeployed somewhere else (not in the U.K. Ė weíve had enough of him) or stay away completely from the administrative affairs of the APC North America branch. He has to listen to the other parent bodies and allow the current and legitimate Chairman to finish his term in office. Even some of the SLPP supporters are not happy with the way Osman Conteh was treated. I had tried to meet with Mr. Conteh during my visit to the US but was not fortunate and am back in the United Kingdom.
As an Adjunct Professor at Reading University Ė This is what I will advise Ambassador Bockarie Steven and all others who are ruining the APC NA Affairs:
Ambassador Bockarie Stevens is a diplomat and not a politician but if he insists on continuing to run the affairs of the APC in North America, I will recommend that some members in Washington DC go check with the U.S. State Department to find the true definition of the job description of all foreign diplomats here in the U.S.¬† Please donít mess up your diplomatic career to satisfy these new comers.
Be careful and always be very mindful of the fact that people will always stand by their thoughts and opinions! Others may attempt to influence your thoughts for better or worse. However, you have a responsibility to control your thoughts and reactions to their naggings. We are too quick to accept what others say as being true and rush into conclusion based on such falsehood.
Be careful Mr. Ambassador! What is true for others may not be true for you. As an ambassador, try to stay neutral and you need to take the advice and statements of others with caution, accepting only that which will point toward what the party wishes to be and what it wishes to achieve. This is not to say you should keep a closed mind. Always maintain an open mind because you never know how useful the statements and ideas of others could be to you and to the party that you profess to support. As the stepson of the founder of this great political organization, you should be seen as protecting the legacy and not be the one to demolish such enviable legacy. Be careful with the people you trample on while ascending to the top, for they will be the same people you will find on your way to the bottom when the going gets tough. Remember - APC will always be APC.
