SLIMO PRESS RELEASE

The governing council and Executive body of The Sierra Leone International Media Organisation (SLIMO) is pleased to inform the general Sierra Leone public of the launch of (SLIMO)

The Sierra Leone International Media Organisation (SLIMO) is aimed at putting the media and serious professional practices at the centre stage of national and media development in a post conflict society, Sierra Leone.

Through free, fair, responsible, progressive  and factual dissemination of information in a professional manner, SLIMO members will contribute to the countrys development using modern media technology and practices, with a view to helping re-brand the country in its re-positioning strive in the complex socio economic fields of fair competition.

In the light of that, and with the collaboration of other peoples of like minds, SLIMO intends to contribute positively to the on-going fight to make Sierra Leone a country of respect for fundamental human and press freedoms.

Indeed if it is true that ethical and professional media practices can enhance national development, then SLIMO will give appreciation to excellence and demand from its members decent and fair opportunities to everybody; creating peer review mechanisms for members with the hope that suggestions, criticisms and reviews will be done professionally, fairly and with utmost standards of ethics.

SLIMO will not be a replacement of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ). SLIMO is a media organisation made up of Sierra Leonean media professional at home and abroad but not limited to journalists and broadcasters from all around the world. SLAJ is the official representation of Journalists in the Republic of Sierra Leone. SLIMO will not try to supplant or undermine the work of SLAJ but rather it will work within its scope to collaborate with SLAJ as an integral part of its agenda to promote media and press relations.

All members of the Sierra Leone media are invited to take membership of SLIMO. On the SLIMO website, www.slimo.org potential members would find all relevant information about SLIMOs objectives and mission statement.
