The Late Victoria Elizabeth Thelma Abiosseh Pratt, affectionately called Osseh will be laid to rest today after a Church Service at 2:30pm today Friday September 25th 2009. She was born the only child of Elkanah Abia Johnson, a certificated Master Builder and devout Christian of Rokel Village and Sarah Patience Johnson on Sunday 18th March, 1923 at 4 Gloucester Lane, Freetown, Sierra Leone.

She attended school at Reuben Johnson Memorial School, then later on went to the then "Osora School" (now the Freetown Secondary School for Girls) before finishing her education at the Annie Walsh Memorial School. Upon leaving school, she chose the career of a Teacher. She did her teaching practice at Holy Trinity Infant School, and was afterwards appointed as a teacher at the Government Model School under Headmaster, H. F. Knox Macauley.

In her heydays as the backbone to famous local politician SAJ Pratt

She was a loving and thoughtful person, and lived a life of service to not only her husband, children and members of her family, but to all she would meet. She was more often than not the first person to come forward in a crisis to help out as best as possible.

She met the famous Sierra Leonean politician and legal luminary, Professor Solomon A. J. Pratt in her youthful days and after courtship, they got married on Thursday 27th April, 1944. Their marriage was blessed with children, and she was always ready to follow him to places wheresoever his work assignment took him to worldwide. She remained a devoted and faithful wife throughout her life.

Shortly before she passed away in the UK at age 86 years

One of the most noteworthy good deeds of Victoria Pratt was whilst she was living in Geneva, Switzerland with Solomon, she was on holidays back in Sierra Leone and upon paying a visit to Connaught Hospital, a former Model School pupil of hers, George Lewis, recognised her and grabbed her hands with joy. She burst into tears as she realised that he was on an outside corridor bed, waiting to die as he was suffering from the then incurable disease of Tuberculosis! Around that time, a new drug had been invented in Switzerland for the disease, so upon her return to Geneva, she got the new drug and sent it by air mail to Dr. Hebron who used it on George Lewis and this miraculously effected his complete cure. She sent further supplies to Dr. Boyle Hebron for other patients here in Sierra Leone. In the process, she saved so many Sierra Leoneans lives.

She visited the Holy Land with her husband, Solomon and did not believe it when she was actually standing on the banks of the River Jordan as she felt that you only saw Jordan river at the time of death. She was so excited by this that she came out of the car and rushed to the River Jordan to wash her feet.

She fully supported all family activities and was a loving wife to Solomon, a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother, to not only her own biological children, but to the extended family and to adopted children which she included in her family circle. She was known to all affectionately as Mummy or Grandma. She was a wonderful example of what a loving and patient wife should be and had many anecdotes to share with the younger generation on how to comport one's self accordingly, to ensure success in marriage.

She was also a wonderful cook. Relatives and friends would come from far and near to sample her wonderful cuisine, especially on a Sunday morning. She was industrious, hardworking and lived her life to the full, always facing each and every challenge that came her way.

She faced her own shares of sorrows in her lifetime, but her faith in God and commitment as a Christian were always an example for others around her to look up to.

When she was diagnosed with Cancer just a few weeks before her death, she faced that final battle as a true Christian with faith, and her final words were "Alleluia, Thank You Jesus" before she peacefully fell asleep to begin her final journey across the spiritual River Jordan in the Heavenlies.

Victoria Pratt was a warm, humourous and generous woman, loved by all who knew her. Her family is now saying thanks be to God for a life well spent to the Glory of God. She will be sadly missed.

Thanks be to God for her Life.
May Her Soul Rest in Perfect Peace.
