Chairperson of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Dr. Christina A.M Thorpe, in declaring the dates for the elections process in forty chiefdoms nationwide, said the period for the revision of the chiefdom councilors lists (voters registers) commences on 14th October to November 1, 2009.

NEC announced that the paramount chieftaincy elections (polling), to be held in forty chiefdoms nationwide, will commence on 25th November 2009 to 13th December 2009.

The NEC Chairperson also disclosed that the Local Council Bye Elections for Ward 232 in the Bo City Council would be held on the 7th November 2009 from 7:00am to 5:00pm.

Dr. Thorpe explained that the seat in question became vacant following the death of Councilor John Bosco Musa (Junior), which sad event took place on the 13th August 2009.

The announcements were made for the paramount chieftaincy elections courtesy of the authority vested in the National Electoral Commission (NEC) as entrenched in Part VIII, Section 28 of the Chieftaincy Act of 2009.

Also, the proclamation made for the conduct of the local council bye election, was done in accordance with Section 10, Sub Section (1) of the Local Government Act of 2004 (Act No. 1 of 2004), which dictates that a vacant seat in Local Council(s) be filled by a bye-election conducted by the National Electoral Commission within ninety days.

Meanwhile, the Commission has called for the cooperation of all stakeholders and also invites interested organizations, embassies, and civil society to observe the processes in both elections.
