The proliferation of water packaging industries in the country has ignited a cause for concern among the citizenry.

These concerns have reached a peak that the Health and Sanitation Ministry is now well determined to right the wrongs in the industry.

Reports have it that over twenty eight (28) water packaging industries are currently operating in the Western Area alone.

Meanwhile, the Awareness Times newspaper has learnt that the Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation, Mohamed Daudis Koroma, will be inviting the proprietors/proprietresses of the aforesaid industries to a meeting on Monday 5th October 2009.

According to a close aide to the Deputy Health Minister, the several sanitation concerns raised by members of the public have attracted the attention of Mr. Daudis Koroma, who is reported to have vowed to shut down any of the industries that fall short of accepted standards.

After Mondays meeting, Minister Koroma will be visiting each of the industries in order to ascertain the sources of water they are using; the purification methods they are using before bottling; and among others, the types of machines they are using.

Well known for his non-compromising stances in protecting the health of the citizenry, defaulting industries will have to face dire consequences.

Reports from the office of the Deputy Minister indicate that there have been numerous complaints from members of the public regarding the proliferation of so called clean water producing factories. The complaints range from particles being found in the water to unpleasant taste.
