Armed robbers on Wednesday 30th September 2009 at about 9:00pm, attacked and robbed PREM Enterprises situated at No. 4 Dillet Street, off Campbell Street in Freetown. The robbers are reported to have number three and were armed with assault rifles.

Reports say the trio fired live gun shots in the air to scare away people who were around, before forcing their way into the shop and demanded for money that they did not entrust to anyone for safe keeping.

Confirmed reports indicate that the robbers made away with a good amount of money and other valuable properties.

According to eye witness accounts, the men came in onboard an unnumbered black jeep and placed the shop attendant under gun point.

The delay by the attendant in meeting the demands of the robbers resulted in him receiving a knife wound in the hand.

The robbers are said to have sped off before the police could be alerted.

Assistant Inspector General of Police, Chris Charlie in charge of the Western Area and Lungi, said in a press interview that he was at his residence at the back of the Pademba Road Prison when he heard gun shots coming from the Campbell Street end.

According to him, the police rushed to the scene but found that the robbers had already left.

He however informed that the police are investigating the matter in a bid to tracing the whereabouts of the robbers who committed the dastardly act.

He also informed that a group of people arrested a thief and handed him over to the police who are now interrogating him.

He called for support by way of intelligence from members of the public, saying the police are not magicians and that they rely heavily on intelligence in order to be able to effectively operate and counter the deadly activities of robbers.

He assured the people of Sierra Leone that despite the spate of armed robberies particularly in the cities, the country remains safe and that there is no cause for alarm.
