Members of the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) have vent out their frustration over the report of the Justice Bankole Thompson Rape Commission of Inquiry.

The grievances of the opposition were made public, yesterday Tuesday 6
th October 2009, during a press briefing summoned at the Wallace Johnson Street Headquarters of the party.

National Womens Leader of the party, Mrs. Isata Jabbie Kabba accused the All Peoples Congress (APC) government of not respecting the welfare of women of the country.

She alleged that: The APC has now legalized rape in the country, adding that perpetrators of rape are allowed to go unpunished, on flimsy grounds of lack of forensic machines to ascertain whether a victim was raped or not.

The Justice Bankole Thompson Commission, she furthered, failed, as expected, to name and shame the perpetrators in the SLPP rape case.

She alleged that the Commission succeeded ridiculing and disgracing the raped victims.

She said the Commission did not complete it investigation before jumping into conclusion that nobody was raped, as according to her, the report clearly states that there was no machine in the country to prove that a person was raped.

Mrs. Kabba therefore used the forum as an opportunity to call on the international community to collect the specimen retrieved from the raped victims, and take it to Europe in order to undertake proper tests.

For him, the partys National Chairman, John Oponjo Benjamin (JOB) called on supporters, members and sympathizers of the SLPP to be ready to face the challenges ahead of the party, as according to him, the rape report is a typical example to show that the challenges ahead are numerous.

Mr. Benjamin said the rape report did not come as a surprise to the party, whilst pointing out that the police Inspector General Brima Acha Kamara had long since prejudiced the outcome of the report. Brima Acha Kamara had disclosed in a radio interview that no rape occurred at the SLPP office, JOB told pressmen.

He further expressed disappointment that the police boss refused to grant the SLPP women permission to hold a peaceful demonstration on the matter for undisclosed reasons. The Sierra Leone Police is like a rotten head that lacks the capability of performing their duties professionally,

Mr. Benjamin blasted, whilst forwarding as instances the uncontrolled spate of armed robbery, and unchecked riotous conducts of youths.

He disclosed that the SLPP will take the rape matter to the court, since the Commission has denied us justice.

Dr. Kadi Sesay, the erudite Deputy National Chairperson of the SLPP pronounced that the Almighty God will give justice to the raped victims and proceeded to heap curses and incantations on the heads of all those she said had denied justice to the alleged rape victims.
