MACP in Mass Extortion Scandal


Local tabloids have alleged that the recently launched Military Aid to Civil Power (MACP) is adversely affecting commercial drivers at night. According to reports, commercial drivers are now obliged to pay a special fee in order not to be searched whenever they arrive at check points at night. Reports say commercial drivers are paying not less than Le.3, 000 at every check point.

 


More Women Needed in Security Sector


Reports say a group of women in the security sector of Sierra Leone is advocating for more women participation in the said sector. According to reports, the women are strongly lobbying and advocating against the discrimination of women in the forces, which is exclusively dominated by men.

 


Freetown Mayor Scrutinizes City Projects


The Mayor of the Freetown City Council (FCC), Herbert George Williams, has reportedly visited a few major streets in the municipality in order to obtain first hand knowledge of the successes of the operation sweep and the on going construction project at Sewa Grounds (Victoria Park). According to reports, the Mayor was accompanied by councilors and staff of the FCC. The mayor advised traders to abide by the rules and regulations of the FCC.

 


Diamond Dealers Commission Classroom in Koaquima


Local tabloids have it that members of the Diamond Dealers Association in the Kono District have recently handed over a five-classroom building in the Koaquima Village, Kono District. According to the Chairman of the association, Musa Monsoo, the construction of the school building was to compliment the government and other stakeholders efforts in developing education in the country. The community members of Koaquima have thanked the association for having them in mind.

 


89 More Quit PMDC


Local tabloids have alleged that at least 89 supporters of the Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) are the latest to tender their resignation letters. According to reports, the main reason for their resignation hinges on the fact that the current leadership of their party has failed them woefully. Reports alleged that several PMDC members became disgruntled during the partys recent convention held in Kenema.

 

High Court Shuts Down Indian Pharmacy

Local tabloids have alleged that the High Court of Sierra Leone had shut down a pharmacy belonging to a prominent Indian businessman, Devan and K. Jethwan, located at 37 Krootown Road Freetown. Reports disclosed that the closure of the pharmacy came as a result of the businessmans failure to appear in court in respect of civil summons filled against him
