The Well Woman Clinic is the first initiative of the Melvine Edith Patricia Stuart (MEPS) Trust which was established in 1978. It was launched by the Ministry of Health and Sanitation in March 2006. It promotes womenís health and in particular caters for cancers affecting the reproductive health of the woman. Presently it is the only clinic in Sierra Leone which concentrates on breast cancer awareness and care. Its wellness programme of teachings and screenings for diabetes, hypertension, obesity, breast cancer and pregnancy are all geared towards cancer prevention and the wellbeing of women . As part of its reach for recovery programme, the Clinic caters for survivors through the Sisters Friendly Survivorsí Club. It does mobile clinic services to different commercial establishments and organisations in the city - screening for breast cancer and teaching women how to self-examine their breasts.
The Well Woman Clinic is a breakthrough initiative in breast cancer care in Sierra Leone and notes that Breast Cancer Awareness month is just once in twelve months but the Well Woman Clinic cares for women every day throughout the year through its affordable cancer care services!!
