The General Manager of the National Power Authority (NPA), Dr. Zubairu Kalokoh has said that as far as he was concerned, ďtoday Sierra Leone is enjoying a much better leadership under the APC of Ernest Bai Koroma than previous leadersĒ. He was speaking in Freetown yesterday October 29th¬†2009 in an exclusive chat with this writer.
Dr. Kaloko commended Emmerson Bockarie for his earlier social songs that pointed out the ills of the society under the last regime of President Kabbah but he said this time, ďthe young man has blundered because the Bumbuna Hydroelectric Project is not stuck as he has sang but it is powering high quality electricity into the heart of Freetown very safely and is functioning wellĒ. Kaloko was referencing the section of the Emmerson song that claimed that Bumbuna implementation was stuck and so the people did not want to listen until they got a reason for why the electricity was stuck.
President Ernest Bai Koroma: Your NPA GM is praising you!
ďI will never lie to you on this. Bumbuna has been sending clean electricity into Freetown now for several weeks,Ē Dr. Kalokoh insisted.
The erudite Ph.D holder however conceded with Emmersonís broadcasted claims over 98.1 that Bumbuna environs itself was not enjoying any electricity supply but he attributed the blame for that to the past SLPP Government whom he insisted ďdid not take into consideration the fact that the Bumbuna town itself should be supplied with electricityĒ.
According to Kaloko, ďIt was the humanitarian heart of President Koroma that caused him to condemn such a set-up and so we are now taking steps to ensure that not only Bumbuna but other towns along the way like Makeni get to enjoy the electricity as it was being passed down to Freetown.Ē
Dr. Kaloko also told Awareness Times that starting yesterday, NPA had started to offload equipment from a ship that docked into the Water Quay which equipment were for the building of a brand new High Fuel Oil 10MW Generator that was donated by the Japanese and which should start being tested by end of this year and be launched by March 2010. He also informed on the successful implementation of Phase 1 of the Japanese project that saw a substation installed up at Regent and transmission lines repaired and strengthened.
Dr. Kaloko also said a 16MW Arab funded project was all set to take off at Blackhall Road due to ďthe dynamism of President Koromaís regime to bring energy to the doorsteps of his peopleĒ.
According to Dr. Kaloko, the current regime was much better at implementing Energy Projects than the past regime of yesterday. He spoke extensively on what he termed as ďpraiseworthy and very sing-able effortsĒ of President Koroma to ďsee to issues that the SLPP did not have the vision to handle when they were in power such as the JICA, BADEA and INTERSERV projectsĒ.
More details on our friendly chat with Dr. Kaloko on the strides by NPA to actualise the Ernest Koroma energy vision, will be published next week. Meanwhile, citizens are anxiously setting their eyes on the November 6th 2009 date that was given as the date for the official launch of the Bumbuna Power project.
