Binkolo, Segbwema, Nomo Farma, Kakua, etc. etc. in Paramount Chieftaincy Elections Wahala

One of the reasons why many citizens/entities including this newspaper had criticised the erstwhile SLPP Government was the seeming interference into the 2006 paramount chieftaincy elections for Biriwa Limba chiefdom wherein the SLPP Government had left the impression, rightly or wrongly, upon many, that an unpopular chief had been foisted on the people of Biriwa Limba Chiefdom after an election was held that saw a huge number of Tribal Authorities stay away from the polls in protest. Indications and angry reports now reaching this newspaper from all over the four corners of Sierra Leone will seem to show that the ugly head of political interference into Paramount Chieftaincy elections had reared its head once again in the midst of this new APC regime.

In Segbwema, a scenario similar to what went on in Biriwa in 2006 has been reportedly averted after the people of Njaluahun Chiefdom resisted the efforts of the Government Eastern Provincial Secretary to falsely declare their chiefdom as an amalgamated chiefdom and then banned ten out of twelve sections from contesting. Njaluahun is the home of the current Opposition leader John Benjamin and the shenanigans by the Provincial Secretary would have led to an almost identical repeat of a boycott of the Biriwa Limba Chiefdom which chiefdom is where some of the ancestry of current President Koroma is linked. The political tit-for-tat significance of this was not lost and if reports emerging are correct, then Resident Minister William Juana Smith should be hailed for his statesmanship in ordering a re-run of the Declaration of Rights in John Benjamins home.

Unfortunately, this does not seem to be the fortunate case for other Chiefdoms such as Kakua in Bo District, Nomo Farma in Kenema District and most importantly, Safroko Limba Chiefdom (Binkolo) where anger has been greatly fuelled by the actions of the Provincial Secretary North, Mr. A.R. Dumbuya. On Page 9 is a serious appeal by one of Sierra Leones respected educationists in the Diaspora, Professor Hassan Sisay in America. It speaks for itself.

An allegation that Provincial Secretary Dumbuya collected one million leones from Dr. Hassan Sisay to "prepare papers" for Desmond Bondi has been confessed to by Dumbuya when this newspaper confronted him in Port Loko with one of his complimentary cards where his grandson had signed at the back to collect the cash. However, he says he only received the money because Professor Hassan Sisay told him he liked him and was going to send money for him because he likes him.

Independent investigations by this newspaper not only would seem to prove almost everything written by Professor Sisay but when we sent reporters to the ground in Binkolo and interviewed residents and also listened to interviews granted to Radio Maria by two discontented candidates for the Paramount Chieftaincy elections in Safroko Limba (Binkolo), it is clear that if a popular schoolteacher by the name of Desmond Bondi, is not allowed to contest the Safroko Limba Binkolo Elections, there will be at least a war of words and at worst, a physical battle in that Chiefdom.

Desmond Bondi was disenfranchised on the single allegation of one woman who claims that he was a descendant of a boyfriend & not a legitimate son.

Meanwhile, political interference in Kakua in South and Nomo Farma in East is also being monitored by out investigators. Well continue to report on situation in Kakua, Nomo Farma and Safroko Limba. It can be recalled that the Truth & Reconciliation Commission Report cites political interference in Chieftaincy elections as one of the causes for the civil war that broke out in Sierra Leone.
