The Justice Sector Development Programme (JSDP) contributes towards establishing safety, security and access to justice for the people of Sierra Leone especially the poor, the vulnerable and the marginalised. It is closely aligned to the Poverty Reduction strategy, security sector reform and other Government of Sierra Leone reform programmes.

The Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL) is committed to restoring the rule of law, preventing further conflict and improving safety, security and access to affordable and equitable justice for people, particularly the poor, the vulnerable and marginalized groups. The JSDP will support these aims by helping to improve the performance of key sector institutions, policies and practices and by strengthening the justice sectors ability to create an environment where grievances can be addressed, economic growth can be stimulated and poverty reduced.

Goal

Improved safety, security and access to justice for the people of Sierra Leone

Purpose

To support the development of an effective and accountable justice sector that is capable of meeting the needs and interests of poor, marginalised and vulnerable people.

JSDP is therefore seeking to employ a Prosecutor who will be the Director of Prosecutions, Intelligence and Investigations in the Sierra Leone Anti Corruption Commission (ACC). The successful applicant will report to the Commissioner of the ACC.

Person Specifications

Experienced Barrister and/or Solicitor, preferably in criminal law, of not less than ten years call. Must hold a current practising certificate in his or her home jurisdiction

Knowledge and Experience required

Demonstrate an excellent understanding of what is required of a Prosecutor

Recent experience in criminal law advocacy in the High Court and above or equivalent

A good knowledge of or the ability to grasp the Anti-Corruption Act 2008 and the Criminal Procedure Act 1965

Up to date knowledge of relevant legal matters

Must be able to work using own initiative and to perform the roles of the leader of a highly specialist team

Must have good organisational and human resource management skills

Must demonstrate strong analytical skills

Managing the Prosecutions, Intelligence and Investigation Section of the ACC

Case Review

Case Management

Court room presentation (Advocacy)

Competencies

Ability to manage a key team of specialists working in the field of tackling corruption at a national level

Understand the duties and values of a Prosecutor

High Level of written communication, able to write clearly, concisely, confidently and assertively.

Is able to communicate clearly, concisely, confidently and assertively.

Must have a high command of the English Language

Demonstrate an understanding of legal procedures

Terms and Conditions

Contract: Local contract with British Council Sierra Leone, to for a period up to two years
